Artist History
From the very first time that he heard the wailing voice of Bob Marley singing “I shot the sheriff”, SEEFARI (aka Tom Carroll) was drawn to the mystical sound of reggae music. He first made his own mark on the international reggae scene with his band Scales of Justice (1986 – 1994). This critically acclaimed band shared the stage with many reggae greats including Steel Pulse, Toots and the Maytals and the Congos and gained an international following with the release of "Think Positive " in 1989. This 6-song ep became a modern roots classic and still receives airplay today. Since then Tom Carroll has released several independent recordings and taken the name SEEFARI for both himself and his band. His recordings have been enjoyed by reggae fans around the world.SEEFARI has this to say about reggae music “Rastafari is love. I and I come to bring people together. Reggae music is a unifying force! An earth force. So it must be played in all the four corners of the earth!! JAH RASTAFARI LIVES!!! |

Press Reviews
Review from Italy - Reggae Time Webzine - SEEFARI (real name Tom Carroll) is a very interesting Rasta reggae singer from Ohio, USA, an authentic veteran of the independent American scene with an incredible number of appearances at festivals and gigs all over the years. In his almost two decades long career he has earned the fame of great live entertainer and has imprinted his reggae with a particular and recognizable character - while known for his covers of classic roots tunes too-. His astonishing debut album entitled "Dread pon da scene" released on his own label Upful Sound, showcases Tom handling with effect the whole instrumentation by himself alone giving birth to a particular style, a sort of 'synthetic' reggae, realized in most parts using electronic keys and instrumentation. Seefari's reggae ranges with effectiveness from roots to dancehall and his original vocal style - imbued with great sweetness and communicativeness - which often digresses into sing-jaying, perfectly interacts with his essential, pulsating and electric riddims. I can't make comparisons with other names in reggae because Seefari is an highly original stylist with strong abilities in songwriting: "Dread pon da scene'" includes two cover tunes (Bob Marley's 'Positive vibration' and Van Morrison's 'Tupelo honey") but are his own compositions - all with original lyrics and melodies - that attract us most. Among them my favorites are the title track - a truly original dancehall tune - "Reggae music haffe gwaan", "Rasta rebel", "Seek Jah kingdom" and "I love Jah" - the latter a beautiful and sweet tune showing Seefari's heartical chant about his deep devotion to Jah. Recently Upful Sound has released the pre-release cd "I&I" another very interesting chapter of Seefari's electronic reggae here evolved in a sort of "cyberroots" of great potential....Ras Walter, Reggae Time Webzine, Italy ...Long-time Rastaman Tom “Seefari” Carroll has a definite reverence for roots reggae but he isn’t afraid to use technology to achieve a contemporary sound. Lyrically, he is a spiritual warrior and dread messenger spreading vibes of positivity and love for Jah...Don Thrasher, Dayton Voice The vibes are nice …serious and sincere… the lyrics are heavily balanced towards message as exemplified by tracks like the ska-based “Independence” and agricultural –awareness alert “Homegrown”… the real gem here is the humble and meditative chant “I love Jah...Chuck Foster, Beat (LA)...he write good lyrics and very good tunes....there's a warmth and genuineness to his delivery..this album can be reccomended overall ... niceup.com ...Laid back fusion reggae that has a tendency to bend - but not break the rules that dominate the genre .. insightful lyrics .. soulful vocal delivery ..a more modern, urban feel to the music...Xtian Specer, Impact Weekly .. Dayton, Ohio... Out of the Ohio plains comes Tom Carroll with a roots and culture sound that could be from the Jamaican jungle...Johnnie G. Texas Beat (Austin) His lyrics are conscious and pertinent. Worth checking out for the lyrics alone…T.C.’s vocal style seems to have a flair for the Deejay...Scottie Macdonald,Cool runnings (Houston) Nearest thing to a groundation this side of JA...Fiyah wiyah (Dayton, Ohio) SEEFARI are the premier Reggae masters and we love to have them perform their jammin’ Jamaican sound!...The boardwalk web site (Restaurant/club, Put-in bay, Ohio) Great stuff!...Doug “Midnight Dread” Wendt, DJ, Program director, Black Eagle, Montana Seefari rocked the house!...Derek Ali, Dayton Daily News .Irie CD. I love roots and culture music...Dave Weatherly, DJ (Greenville, NC). Good roots music...Rasta Rebob, DJ (Juneau, Alaska).
