Press Reviews
"HEAD CHECK Checks-In"Last Saturday night, more then 300 cheering fans gathered upstairs at Mr. Ferguson's, 209 N. Broadway, Pittsburg to listen to a sample of true talent. Local band Head Check celebrated the release of there debut CD "Mindless Control" by putting on an outstanding show. The opening act was Pittsburg based Paperface and they were soon followed by Head Check. Lead vocalist, Aaron Chiapetti, Frontenac, commanded the crowd from the offset of Headcheck's first song "RX" with his smooth controlled, almost eerie sound. A very professional stage show consisting of colored lights, fog, props & strobe lights complimented Matt Brooksher's and bassist Dan Smith's well coordinated hard core riffs. Headcheck's unique slow swaying melodic then crash boom heavy metal sound was kept in sync by Brad Stroud's intense complex drumming. A modern flavor was given thanks to an appearence on the turntables by Dj Dax."A Lady's Latter" & "Lonely Rain" were the next selections the band performed. True to Headcheck's unique style, the crowd was bombarded with the clever combination of smith's bass & Stroud's drums while Brooksher & Chiapetti starred on the very fast intense choruses. Two singles by The Deftones were then flawlessly covered by Headcheck, preparing the crowd for the show's finale, "Wardrobe For The Wicked". During this song, the floor literally was bouncing due to the collective release of energy from the crowd. Chiapetti effortlessly blared the songs lyrics providing to the listeners exactly how much heart he puts into the show. Again, Smith slapped his bass to produce a wonderful descending tune while Brooksher used his guitar telent to keep the crowds' heads nodding. Stroud aggressively beat his drum kit to produce a tom-tom laden beat that sounded second to none. The combination of the crowd's intensity & Head Check's talent produced a show that was very pleasing to all invovled.Head Check will be performing again at Mr. Ferguson's on St. Patricks Day, March 17th. If Saturday's exhibition was a preview of Headcheck's plans for the future, then all fans of new school hard rock are in for a heckuva treat. |
