Artist History
Born and raised in the seaport town of Gloucester MA, Brian King came from a family of musicians. His grandfather, Jerry Quinn, a jazz drummer and bandleader, played with the likes of Sarah Vaughn. As a child Brian spent hours listening to his father's eight-tracks on the headphones. At a young age Brian began writing his own lyrics and melodies. At age fourteen he bought a 4-track and began exploring sound production. In 1994 along with friends Craig Rich (formerly of the Drop Nineteens) and Colette Katsikas (host of Raw Footage w/Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon) Brian formed the punk outfit Sneaky Golita. The group attracted a cult following with their onstage antics, witty lyrics, and do-it-yerself attitude. In 1996, Brian turned back to his roots, forming the acoustic rock band Crone with singer/songwriter, Deb Hardy. Crone played at coffee houses, bars, clubs, and festivals. For the last couple of years Brian has been performing locally and in the Boston/Cambridge area at venues like The Lizard Lounge and Jacques. In the Spring of 2001, Brian released his first solo CD "Semi-glad." |

Press Reviews
About Brian's CD "Semi-glad": "This album is a music gallery, easly accessible, yet personal in a way I can feel. It not only references and represents great pop music, it gives back to the listener, and to music. Years of experience, technical and musical, are apparent here. Brian King has arrived." - Jesse Parsons, producer KILL ROCK STARS
"This is a solo effort from the multi-talented Brian King. His strength is in his haunting rhythms that cascade through these eleven originals and lone Siouxsie and the Banshees cover 'Melt.' King's voice is chameleon-like and approximates the role of his songwriting as he dishes out medieval, Oriental and operatic flavorings. His command of instruments and his voice is enviable as he proves cut after cut that he is capable of utilizing all of them with skilled proficiency."- METRONOME May,2001
"Brian King strikes the perfect balance of gloom and glam."- BAY WINDOWS, July 12,2001 |
