Press Reviews
from blue moon magazine, 2000 ****PURPLE.Half Light of August(independent) PURPLE. has stood for an honest, original blend of folk, rock and psychedelia in Ottawa since 1993. Half Light of August features Craig Simon(ex-Rudeboy) on vocals and lead guitar, rubbery bass by Robin Beasley (No Buds for Bob), drums by Jody Daub and dreamy organ by Andy Gorham. Every song is a new experience; a different mood and tempo. These Days are Left to Dreams is an introspective mid-tempo; Sweet Baby Jesus is fast and furious. The psychedelic touch comes from spiraling lead guitar with various effects and Hammond organ. You Are a Flower is a fun, hippie lovesong. The title track is nostalgic, angry and beautiful all at once. A long-anticipated first release, PURPLE. fans will find Half Light of August well worth the wait. - LF |
