Artist History
How does one separate themselves from the sameness of today's hard music scene? The answer is quite clear. Combine the accessible complexities of Rush and Dream Theater with the solid riff - oriented groove of Metallica. Then add the lethargic doominess of Sabbath and the heavy psychadelia of Soundgarden and Tool. What you come up with is the aggressive / progressive sounds of OPPOSITE EARTH.OPPOSITE EARTH is an aggressive, yet melodic hard music act hailing from the Tampa Bay area of Florida. The five members of OPPOSITE EARTH have successfully integrated mystical eastern melodies, powerful guitars and masterful keyboards with intellectually oriented lyrics. Combined this creates a plethora of powerful, textured and structurally complex songs, while never losing their metallic bite.In September of 1997 OPPOSITE EARH recorded their debut album for Progressive Arts Music, entitled “Headspace”, which was recorded at the legendary Morrisound Recording Studio in Tampa, Florida and marks the third time that OPPOSITE EARTH has collaborated with renowned producer Tom Morris, who has worked with many diverse acts ranging from Crimson Glory, Iced Earth and Kreator to Warrant and Seven Mary Three. “Headspace” garnered much praise throughout the world. The album was released in Europe in November of that year through Germanys InsideOut label. Keysman Rick Risberg also tours with Iced Earth (see Alive In Athens).Currently the band is working on their sophomore release, “Selling The Miracle”, which further expands their unique sound and vision. |

Press Reviews
“A damn brave release… the best term I can think of for both band and album is radical!!!”(Ballbuster Hard Report)“OPPOSITE EARTH is a metal band true to its roots. The music rigid, tight and tuned like the tightest of snares. OPPOSITE EARTH creates a precise, complicated brand of metal. Where Maiden was primal, OPPOSITE EARTH is cyber.(Jam Entertainment News)“If you’re a fan of the classically influenced and technical handiwork of the prog-metal genre, then OPPOSITE EARTH are one of the best purveyors of the scene.”(Metal Maniacs Magazine)“This Florida act prove themselves to be a worthy contender. Fusing in various influences, OPPSITE EARTH have a classy sound with a lot of melody and progressive elements, but never lose sight of the bite.”(Ill – Literature Magazine)“This band could be huge. They don’t offer the same cliché’ progressive sound, but carry it to a different level.”(The Wild! Rag)“OPPOSITE EARTH carry you on a musical crusade as allies with the likes of Fates Warning and Confessor, towering above the filth of trends and mindless oblivion. New Age, classic, powerful, talented, well produced and well worth possessing.”(Harder Beat Magazine)“Headspace, their debut album, firmly states that they go their own path, where groovy psychadelic modern metal meets progressive metal roots. It is not common to see bands with inspirations from both the progressive genre and good grunge (Soundgarden) or psychadelic rock / metal (Tool). Add trippy Eastern motifs, groovy catchiness and you are about to get the complete picture. The record is very well balanced and gives a pleasant experience. The target audience for such music is very wide, the only task is to reach it”.(Geidrus Slivinskas / Edge Of Time Magazine) |
