Artist History
Time has been a friend to Albuquerque new-folk performer, Katie Gill. Her 1996 CD release, "All In Good time," along with the title cut, "It's Been a Long Time Coming," are indicative of the road she has patiently traveled towards her goals. Although her song-writing first began while attending high school in her hometown of Roswell, it was not until many years later that Gill's musical goals to produce and record a solo album were realized.A graduate of Eastern New Mexico University of the early 70's, requirements of the music degree had slowed her pace. "I could play guitar all over the place, but they required me to be proficient in piano to get my degree," said Gill, a first place New Mexico winner for the annual National Country Starsearch. Admittedly not a piano player, Gill remained determined to acquire her degree and spent the extra time necessary to become an accomplished piano player. Her forte though is her voice and guitar which have carried her through her career. In spite of the delayed degree, Gill's parents, Harvey and Adele were supportive of her career choice, giving her a positive start while continuing to support and encourage her along the way as is stated by Gill in the dedication on "All in Good Time." (MORE) Gill's versatile voice has taken her from pop, to country, rock, jazz, even opera, and she has been involved in a number of groups which currently include Trio Grande, Wild Sky, and Horsefeathers, though she considers herself a soloist. In addition to musical performances, Gill has done voice for national radio and TV jingles.Though commercial success came to her, home, family, love and friendship have remained the dominate theme in Gill's music. The birth of her son Daniel during the "All in Good Time," project contributed to the momentous occasion. Attributing to this, her title song, "It's Been a Long Time Coming, " won Best Musical Production in the Adult Contemporary category of the 1996 New Mexico MIC awards. In addition to recording and studio work, Gill has spent much of her time performing live venues in Albuquerque for the past 15 years. Said Gill, "Another feather in my cap recently was a trip to the Kerrville (Tex.) Folk Festival last May where I appeared on the main stage with Susan Clark . . .we had a blast and the audience liked us too." |
