Artist History
Born November 9th 1964 in Hawksbury, Ontario Richard Leblanc, A.K.A. Rick L. Blues was
raised in Très Saint Rédempteur near Montreal. From his father, a farmer, he learns
perseverance and from his mother, a seamstress, the love of a labour well done. With
an obvious passion for music, like his seven brothers and sisters, Rick sings, at a very young
age, with his sister Suzanne on the porch of the family home.
With a natural gift for imitation, he entertains his family and classmates with songs ranging
from Elvis to the Beatles. At eight, he learns piano, guitar and flute. At fifteen formed his first
band where he sang, played drums and wrote his first songs. Multi-instrumentalists, he
tinkers with the saxophone then discovers his fondness for the harmonica.
It was at this moment that he also discovers his passion for jazz where he listened to Joe
Pass, Jim Hall, Thelonious Monk and Charlie Parker, and blues with Muddy Waters, Sonny
Terry & Brownie McGee, B.B. King, Big Mama Thornton, Ray Charles and many others.
After many years of playing cover material, Rick puts together his first blues band in the
1980's. "B.L. Blues" starts out as a duo but quickly becomes a trio, then a quartet. Wanting
to fend for himself, Rick becomes Rick L. Blues, today's solo artist we have grown to know
and love.
Evolving with Quebec's and the U.S.'s leading blues artists, our friend has also opened for
many prestigious names in Pop music like Garou, Nanette Workman, France D'amour,
Francine Raymond and many others. Rick performes at large festivals, writes film scores and
records on his own label.
