Artist History At Winter´s End was formed in autumn 1996 by the guitarists Aleksi Juutinen and Jaakko Nieminen. The lineup (Harri Vähänissi -vocals, Topi Ruotsalainen -bass, Jukka Outinen -drums) was complete in October and soon they found themselves playing raw death metal influenced by old Paradise Lost and Amorphis.Their first demo ´Nectar for the Withering´ was released in following spring and it received quite positive feedback, though At Winter´s End still didn´t have any clear ideas of their own style.Their second demo ´Hallowed Membrance´ reached daylight in January 1998 and the new material introduced deeper, darker and more atmospheric side of At Winter´s End with clean guitars, synths and etheric female vocals.In April 1998 their former bass player decided to leave the band and he was replaced with a new man JP Immonen, who joined these Helsinki metal rockers immediately.Still At Winter´s End played a few gigs in Greece with the old line up in August 1998.In autumn of the same year At Winter´s End slowly built up their rising fame in gigs with bands like Sentenced, Cryhavoc, Gandalf, Soulgrind, Lullacry and Ancient Drive.The band entered the studio in March of 1999, and the long awaited MCD ´Divine Empire´ came out in June 1st. Style had changed from the last recordings and the three new songs were spiced with clean vocal parts and groovy heavyrock influences, still not forgetting the atmospheric melodies or death metal roots of At Winter´s End.Though only a few gigs were made after the release of ´Divine Empire´, At Winter´s End proved that the live energy was still burning more furiously and with higher flames than ever before.Inspired by the success of ´Divine Empire´ in Finland and in other countries, At Winter´s End decided to follow the path that ´Divine Empire´ had created.
