    Artist History
Underclaire has been a work in progress since four individuals from different backgrounds came together in December of 1996. Their shared goal proved to be a formidable catalyst in their gelling as a band—that goal being: no one wanted a 9-5 job, and being in a rock band was definitely the way to go! Underclaire sounds familiar, but even though the roots are already there you still won’t be able to pinpoint their sound. Each member does what he or she wants to do in respect to the song; they impose no limits to the songwriting. Whether it cause the songs to sway between Duke Ellington and/or heavy metal is just the by-product of their mantra: no limits. Some personal musical influences include: truckstop food, Swedish death metal, Gibson guitars, the Cure, white-capped frat boys, Michael Jackson, drugs, TV Theme-songs, the color black, Michael Kamen, Spiderman, and the Beatles.Soon, they began to influence each other; the songwriting became more advanced, more embellished arrangements and more of a collective effort. Entering the “New Music Monday” competition at the local rock hotspot seemed like the next logical step. Underclaire was up against several really good bands and they came out on top, winning the competition and securing their spot in the Crossroads music showcase. After a couple of demo tapes and a more-than-welcome local embrace, the task of writing songs for an album began. Now over two years later, Lights Out, Cairo… is the product of their persistence. Recorded, and produced in part, by Barry Poynter the new album is a collection of guitar-driven, thundering modern rock. The off-the-wall kinetic energy is dispelled at times to allow the listener to grasp the one thing this band is about: dynamics. One instant you are floating away while the guitars take a backseat to the bass and drums, the next instant you’re pulled under and crushed as the Marshall amps come to life and kick into overdrive! This kind of energy was difficult to capture in the studio, but with the help of Jason Magnusson and Barry Poynter, Underclaire was able to complete the album in the ten days before the deadline. For more information on the band visit www.underclaire.com ###

    Press Reviews
"...There is something amazingly uplifting about the crazy interaction of dueling guitar frequencies and all the subtle nuances made in that free high-end chaos. Underclaire's debut disc, Lights Out, Cairo is a stunner from start to finish. With the opening shots of the first track "The Direction", to the beautiful quiet of "hurricane", it is very obvious that Underclaire has staked out a beautiful sonic territory full of amazing dynamics. You get a sense from listening to this disc that the members of the band have been in the trenches and that the songs they sing about are full of the life experiences of their various members. They seem to be close to the march, and visions of battle seem to creep into the auditory brain stem. Who do they sound like? Well, Mike Mullins sings like he might have listened to everyone from Led Zep to Bush, but his voice is definitely his own and it blends well with those loud-ass guitars that crunch like bombs." ---Paul Lovett, HTS Recording "...Live, Underclaire plays with abandon. The guitars scream, the drums quake, and the bass rumbles." --Kevin Kerby, LR Free Press
