Press Reviews
"Five Star Rating. The King's got a sound that plays havoc with 60's pop-convention, wrapping catchy, piano-based songs in all manner of psychedelia and early prog-isms. That not only makes them the logical heirs to Todd Rundgren's Nazz - It also makes them a hot commodity these days." -Digital City. "The Red King is perhaps the next great hope of the Philly indie-rock scene." -Philadelphia City Paper. "The Red King's irrepressible rock 'n roll stage presence sets this group apart. It was especially fitting that band found itself gracing the stage at CBGB at this year's CMJ Festival, where attitude-laden groups like The Ramones and Blondie once made themselves home." -Philadelphia Weekly. "The type of modern rock radio fodder that's so catchy, it's absolutely impossible to hate. Crammed with well-crafted, piano-driven hooks, sneaky James Bond grooves and sincere vocals." -Listen.com. "Their new self-released CD, WOKE UP, is an ambitious collection of rock ballads deeply rooted in the piano-driven drama of Hunky Dory-era Bowie and the more contemporary guitar assault of Radiohead's OK Computer." -Philadelphia Weekly. "The Norristown, PA band whips up a storm of psychedelic mayhem and operatic piano-driven pomp that recalls icons like Jefferson Airplane, Queen and Ziggy Stardust." -Philadelphia City Paper. "Rife with promise and worthy of attention...A refreshing debut from a band aiming its sights higher than the same old indie-rock." -Philadelphia Inquirer. "An ambitious if not wholly realized freshman outing. But surely, it's just the beginning." -Philadelphia City Paper. "The Album's six tracks, each almost as longwinded and mischievous as the next, wallow in the lure of melodic overstatement, twin guitar attacks, lumbering power chords and lyrics as cool sounding as they are logically unsound. Ummagumma, baby." -Philadelphia Weekly. |
