Artist description
Bell has been performing, off and on for the last 25 years here in the stateline area. Most of that time has been as a solo act. He has performed for Cub Scouts and Nursing Home residents and for legions of night spot patrons. He may be the only performer around who can deliver, by request and with feeling, The Mills Brothers' Cab Driver and all 6 minutes of Harry Chapin's Taxi on the same night. |

Artist History
Karl (With a K) was linked to his first guitar, a toy, back in 1957. That guitar was a replacement for the broom he used as a prop to imitate Elvis Presley.
Ten years later, Bell began in ernest to teach himself to play a real one. He'd been listening to Johnny Horton and 45 rpm records that belonged to his older siblings and by the late Sixties and early Seventies he'd acquired a variety of musical tastes.
Though he won't come right out and say it himself, friends claim that he taught himself to play guitar while watching and listening to the bands at the Pop House, a teen hangout well remembered by many Beloit Boomers.
He still considers himself a Beatles fan and he still enjoys listening to the early Dylan stuff. His musical sojourns dip into the Jame Taylor, John Prine and Jim Croce songbooks and he still enjoys them Fifties tunes.
The vintage C&W tunes that pop up occasionally are a tribute to them old family gatherings where he cut his teeth as a young guitar player. His style today is best defined as "Countrified Pop".
