Artist History
Teresa started guitar studies at age 7 and was soon rockin' at teen halls, high schools, and army and navy bases. At age 12, Teresa was gigging regularly at the Whiskey and Gazzari's on Hollywood's Sunset Strip. She was awarded a guitar scholarship to California State University Northridge, then hit the road for the next 15 years with her own bands to play miles of blues soaked bar stools and major venues including world tours with Helen Reddy. She formed her current band Cocobilli in 1997, released her CD, "Bustin' Loose" (rated in the top 12 by the LA Times for 1998), and is currently working on her next CD. |

Press Reviews
Teresa Russell and Cocobilli, "Bustin' Loose" (Mojo Loon Records)
"Russell's long-awaited debut CD is a powerful blues statement. It is
laden with rock-star level guitar solos. Blues topics such as Mr. Wrong
at the right time, Mr.Right at the wrong time and all the variations
thereof, are handled most convincingly."
Bill Locey, L.A. Times. Jan 01, 1999.
"...... I'm pleasantly surprised when a hard rockin' album hits me
right. One such disc is Bustin' Loose (Mojo Loon Records), from Southern
California guitarist/singer Teresa Russell and her band Cocobilli. Ms.
Russell is a solid, "no nonsense" guitar player, and also possesses a
strong voice. Bringing together the entire package, she's also a
talented songwriter. Ms. Russell's best guitar work
comes on the mid-tempo blues "Up Against The Wall," while her strongest
vocal work is on the slow soulful ballad "Just Outside." Teresa Russell
is definitely a talent on the rise."
Bill Mitchell, Blues Bytes, March 1999
".... Not only is Russell a powerful vocalist, producer, and songwriter,
her major force is as a blues rock guitarist. Described as "the most
awesome Female rock guitarist...ever!" this is simply an understatement
- Teresa Russell is one of the best guitarists out there; male, female,
or in-between!
"Bustin' Loose is a collection of twelve songs either written or
co-written by Teresa. From rock'em, sock 'em, straight out rockers like
the title cut (Bustin' Loose ) to "Up Against The Wall", Bustin'
Loose not only delivers the knock-out punch but crosses over smoothly to
pop as well as r'n'b audiences. The mega piece-de-resistance, "Left Me
with the Blues", a six-minute gut wrenching heavy blues should leave no
doubt of her guitar and vocal abilities.
"Expect to hear a lot more from Teresa Russell."; John Kearney, Record
