Artist description
Nuance Section plays original groove music designed specifically for dancing. We deliver high energy shows featuring Shawn Smith singing and Nick Young tap dancing as a garnish. The band has also been known to do shows playing straight ahead jazz featuring just the tap dance. Nuance Section combines performance experience and strong original material into a show everyone enjoys. |

Artist History
Nuance Section began as 'Nuance Tribe' at the Clarksville Jazz Festival 1997 in Austin, Texas. The lineup featured Chuck Hailes/bass, Mike Longoria/drums, Nick Young/rhythm tap dance, Barney Babtista/saxaphone, Kieth Waher/guitar. We recieved a small amount of attention and the seed was planted. After some growing pains and development the core ensamble solidified into the current line-up and Nuance Section was fully realized. Now, after performing together for the last three years in the prestigious music scene of Austin, Texas, musical bonds have been made and material has had time to marinate. Currently hard at work on new material and still playing live in Austin, Nuance Section looks to finish up the latest CD 'GREEN' and prepare for a trip north this summer. |

Press Reviews
AUSTIN CHRONICLE 1/8/99 The Nuance Section plays long-form improvised music with a healthy dose of Latin rhythms, but that's only the beginning. There's plenty of funk in the bass and guitar; liberal use of vibes, sax, flute, and synthesizers; free-form rapping from drummer Mike Longoria or guest performers; and tap-dancing. The taps provided by Nick Young are an interesting rhythmic counter to several percussionists already doing their thing. And don't let the name of the album scare you. These Urban Rhythms have nothing to do with light-new-adult-contemporary-psuedo-jazz or any of that crap.-Christopher Hess-Austin Chronicle --------COSMIC MUSIC NETWORK 01/2000 As the mighty George Clinton once sang, "Everything is on the One." Nuance Section took that theory to heart, landing firmly on the one with each and every one of their salacious, house shaking grooves. The Austin-based band shows a profound love of everything from James Brown's funky workouts to acid jazz, to latter day R&B outfits like The Time and Tony! Toni! Tone! on "Would U B Mine." The track truly has a little something for everyone, boasting a tap dance and congas interlude, velvety smooth sax work, and the sweet tones of singer Shawn. For anyone who thinks the days of live R&B bands with white-hot horn sections and nimble grooves are a thing of the past, you need to check out Nuance Section. Pat Berkery- Cosmic Music Network |
