Artist description
LITHIUM (Federal Servicemark for musical performances) are an original hard
rock quartet from the Detroit area. Their music spans between the edges of guitar
rock from the straight ahead metal edge to the softer, more acoustically friendly,
edge (and therein lies the story of the bipolar name - LITHIUM!). |

Artist History
LITHIUM has been in existence since the Spring of 1997. As an original
alternative hard rock band Lithium was first recongnized soon after forming for,
ironically, their cover of the obscure 1975 song "Two Timer" found on the cancer
charity KISS tribute disc "Creatures of the Net" -produced by MUSICAREONLINE's
Kathy LaBonte (musicareonline.org). Described by METAL EDGE magazine in
their review of the CD as "stand out" for their "rockin' rendition" of the song (at that
time under the name "The Palace Gaurd"), Lithium - under the direction of band
leader Tommy Rifai - quickly took to recording their own brand of bipolar rock
originals. Being full-time workers or students, the process has been consistent
but is taking time. Nevertheless, Tommy
has kept the fire hot, appearing on Detroit's biggest rock station's (101 WRIF) show
highlighting up and coming Detroit rock acts: MOTOR CITY RIFFS. With demos of
their upcoming CD in hand, Lithium rocked Detroit's airwaves for a half-hour with
manic-depressive rock & roll and interviews. The show went over so well that the
band was asked by WRIF to return for an encore when their CD is complete and
ready for full release.......patience is truly a virtue. As Tommy is a physician,
his work for MUSICAREONLINE (musicareonline.org) and their children's cancer
and Alzheimer's charity will continue until early 2001. His vocal and guitar work will
be heard on the following upcoming MUSICAREONLINE projects: The
CD/soundtrack to the Dale Sherman (reknown author of the KISS biographies
"Black Diamond" 1 and 2) novel "A World Without Heroes" ("I Want You" and
"Odyssey") -found in the book's back cover sleeve, and The "Spirit of '78" CD (to be
released in spring of 2001) featuring KISS solo albums' material exclusively
("Tunnel of Love" and song on which Joe Perry of Aerosmith's work appeared on the
original version). In November of 2001, LITHIUM's "Justified" made it to the "finals", so to
speak, on the company SOUND ADVICE's short list of metal songs being considered
for a well budgeted indie movie soundtrack based on a surfing family. Whether the
song will make it on the final soundtrack is now being determined. But that it made
through such scrutiny and made it to the "finals" is an honor |
