Artist description
My name is Guthrie, and I am a singer/songwriter from El Paso Texas. I grew up on bluegrass, folk, and pop radio. My father was best friends with Woody Guthrie's first son Bill from the time they were in the first grade together until Bill was killed by a train when he was 22. They played songs together and absorbed all the really cool folk and traditional music burgeoning around them in the late fifties and early sixties. Three years after Bill's death I was born and given the name Bill Guthrie McDonald. I still have Bill's old beat up Mexican guitar that was given to me by Woody's first wife Mary some 20 or more years ago. When I was a kid my dad used to coordinate and present Woody Guthrie tributes in El Paso at the Chamizal Memorial. It was here that I met people who were very real, down to earth, and extremely passionate about music. They breathed it and you could tell. Pete Seger, Will Geer, Petter, paul and Mary and various traditional musicians were introduced to me through my father's involvement and dedication to the artist known as Woody Guthrie. |

Artist History
I play in the street in San Francisco mostly. It's where you get to share your music with the most people at any given time. As for the band, it is a loose conglomerate of jazz and rock musicians that revolves. |
