    Artist History
Warpdrive began in 1992 as three teens responding with bitter cynicism toward their lives as well as their local music scene in Woodbridge, New Jersey. What started as weekend basement-jam sessions between bassist/vocalist John Freeman and drummer Rich Albuquerque turned into a full-fledged suburban garage band when they met up with guitarist Jay Housman at their high school.Collectively sickened state of there local 1992 scene, Warpdrive’s approach to music was angrier, darker and more aggressive than that of their peers. Warp Drive built a small cult following after recording a demo and playing several local area shows, including a triumph at the Fords park battle of the bands. The trio disbanded after pursuing different musical and non-musical endeavors in 1996.Warpdrive reformed in the fall of 1999 with a new, more melodic sound. Their music still retains its characteristic aggressive bite though. Warpdrive’s first EP entitled “It came from the Claypits” showcases the influences of a variety of heavy music types upon their style as well as shows how much the trio has grown up in the last five years. Warpdrive’s live performance is one of the angriest and most energetic in the local N.J. scene. With a shut up-and-play/no bullshit attitude towards there live show, Warpdrive gets on the stage and drives their point home to everyone watching. Crowd movement and participation is not only encouraged but required by Warpdrive’s performances.Rich’s behind the drum antics combined with John and Jay’s on-stage skirmishes create a visual and audio assault that commands the audience’s attention and sends them into frenzy. The trio becomes a collective conscious on stage and the mission is simple: To put on the best show the crowd has ever seen. Every time the band plays they come closer to this goal. This attitude has led them to victory at the battle of the bands at the Cove in Roselle, New Jersey, as well as to some impressive sales of their debut EP.Warpdrive plans to get back into the studio this summer to record a follow up to “It came from the Claypits”, play more shows in the central New Jersey area as well as branch out of their local scene.
