Artist description
Townhall masters every instrument they play. With influences and experience that include blues, funk, jazz, folk, rock, and Latin, Townhall has coalesced into a tight, diverse, and exciting act to watch. From Stanford’s swanky trombone riffs to Smidt’s ethereal trills on the flute, their skill is as striking as their versatility. Their songs meld these sounds into something entirely new. |

Artist History
All five members of Townhall were jazz majors when they met at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Press Reviews
“Perfect.”
Tim Whitaker
The Philadelphia Weekly
“What makes Townhall rise above, are arrangements spiced not just with the obligatory cool rockin’ and funk licks, but also free jazz improvisations (“Half Past Gone”), peppery Memphis style brass (“No Reason”), or slippery reggae beats and intoxicated New Orleans horns on an appropriately schizophrenic “So Far”, a special fave.”
Jonathan Takiff
The Daily News
“Townhall gave an inkling not only of their potential massive appeal on the road, but of the growing strength of a genre that can sell records without airplay (not that these kids will have to beg for radio airplay)…This superb jam band composed of very young but amazingly versatile players had the joyous crowd dancing at the lip of the stage during their set which was a strong indication of things to come.”
Simon Glickman
Hits Magazine
“Townhall is so fucking cool that they could walk through the desert without breaking a sweat.”
Michael Jackson
Cojax Management, Marketing and Production
“Just when you think everything is tired and no one can do anything new, a band or performer comes along and re-ignites the whole thing. TOWNHALL plays like The Band if they had listened to hip-hop, they sing like Van Morrison if he was in a better mood and, goddamn, they look good doing it. TOWNHALL is young and watching them is to remember being young, loving life and all of its possibilities, and believing that music could change your life. Go see Townhall, fall back in love with rock and roll and all that it can and should be." --Jim Sutcliffe, Electric Factory Concerts/SFX

“Townhall’s style of storming funky rock, jam band jazz and horn-driven prickly blues is directly in league with classic rock acts like The Animals, War or The Band.”
Philadelphia Style Magazine
“Seeing Townhall was as exciting as witnessing The Roots taking Hip-Hop by storm on the corner of 5th & South a decade or so ago. When Stanford babbles, “tonight I am the master of the universe” his haughty demeanor makes it plausible.”
