Artist History In the fall of 1998, five very diverse people were brought together by a power that might be viewed as foolish to many people, and yet, wise to others. The group was united by the power of the Light. Together they joined an army whose only purpose is to destroy all darkness in this world. The set of five had a special force behind them, giving them power to do all things, as long as it was for the Light.Does this sound like a parody of Star Wars? The truth is it's not; it is the basic biography claimed by the band Straight and Narrow. But if you are interested in learning more, by all means read on. The story of the way this band came together may be very different depending on who you ask. We all were at different points in our lives upon God's open door for Straight and Narrow. Todd and Cody had been best friends for quite a long time. Christians, they had jammed for Christ and done talent shows and written songs together before. The two were tight, great friends and familiar with each other's musical style. While this had been taking place all the way across the bridge in the land of Manteo, something different had been happening on the beach. Pat and Steph had jammed together for a long time also. They were in bands together through middle school and early high school, including TWA and Uncle Bunkie's Ecstasy. But neither had ever given their talents over to the Lord before, Who was really in control all along. I don't think either one of them realized the blessing until actually having the experience. In another section of the earth, Jesse and Steph had also been very close for quite a while. It was Jesse who first brought Steph to church. She was later saved in June of 98. Since then, they had been jamming in Jesse's bedroom. With Jesse on guitar and Steph on bass, they both loved punk rock and longed for some type of a band. Steph having just come out of a secular band, and Jesse going through changes also, both only wanted to play for God. The band would be a Christian band this time - no compromises. During this time, Pat entered the picture with Steph and Jesse. He also wanted a band. He had listened to this Christian punk rock and loved it! The funny thing is that Pat was very stoked about having a Christian band… however, he was not yet a Christian himself. It was after the band was formed that Pat also gave his life to God, and now - Satan watch out - he is shining his light uncontrollably everywhere!So there was now 3 members, Jesse on guitar, Steph on bass, and Pat on drums. They all wanted the same thing. But where oh where could more of these weird Jesus musicians be???? That question was answered with a guitar player and vocalist, Cody and Todd. They also wanted so badly to form a Christian band, but could not find other members. How amazing God is! After a conversation between Pat and Todd in school one day, the five found out about one another, had a practice, and fit together like puzzle pieces. It was December of 1998, a cold and stormy night. In Todd's band room garage over the Christmas break, we had more fun playing music together than ever before. The rest is history. God opened doors for Straight and Narrow like no doors were opened in any secular band ever before. We played our first show in February at the Dream Center opening up for Rie, Room for Improvement, and the Oisters, who never showed up, with a whopping five songs. Our second show was also at the Dream Center, where we had the opportunity to open up for a band whom we had look up to for a while; Vroomx2. As we played more shows, we began to get more comfortable on stage and bond more than ever before. After months of playing together, the band was confronted with a major change. Jesse Boutchyard moved to Charlotte, NC. Through Chrysalis, Todd had met an amazing guitar player by the name of Daniel Phelps. In hearing about the need for a guitarist, Daniel was so stoked to fill the spot that there was no keeping him away. This has proved to be an awesome, awesome blessing!!! He filled the missing puzzle piece and Straight and Narrow was back on their feet. Jesse Boutchyard is missed and we thank God for the opportunity of having played with him. Straight and Narrow has now been together for a little over 2 years. Todd has now also picked up the guitar, and the lineup is Todd (vocals, guitar), Cody (guitar, bgv's), Steph (bass, bgv's), Daniel (guitar, bgv's), and Pat (drums, bgv's). We have played shows in many places all over North Carolina and met many amazing people and fellow bands. We hope to continue to do so and spread God's Light through Straight and Narrow for as long as He wills it that way.
