Artist History
Shahrzad was born and raised in a literary family. Her mother, Partow Nooriala, is a poet and critic who has published a number of books in Iran and the U.S. and her father, M.A. Sepanlou, is a well-known poet who has written and published more than 100 books in Iran. Growing up in Iran, Shahrzad's family kept close friendships with some of the most famous names in contemporary Iranian literature and cinema, including Ahmad Shamlou, Houshang Golshiri, Simin Behbahani, Bahram Beizayee and Masoud Kimiyaee. Not surprisingly, Shahrzad's love for music and poetry and the arts in general began at a very early age. Shahrzad's love of singing also started around the age of four, when she would combine her talent of creating lyrics with her natural talent and love for singing. Shahrzad's parents kept a recording of her singing voice when she was only five. After high school, Shahrzad attended UCLA and in 1995 received a B.A. in Sociology. She then met two young female singers and together they formed the first female band in the history of Iranian music called "SilhoueTTT". It was through SilhoueTTT that Shahrzad established herself as a popular and unique vocalist. In 1997, she left SilhoueTTT to work on her solo album. After spending a year on the production of "Our Story" the album was released to the Persian and International community. |
