    Artist description
With their most unique writing sound, Rock Star Club has caught the attention of Chicago's most arduous critiques, and scored mighty high with their self released album, "America Needs Rock Star Club".WXRT 93.1FM DJ and host of "Local Anesthetic" Richard Milne took such a strong liking to Rock Star Club, he named their 1997 demo as Chicago Recording of the Year, beating out many national acts and established artists. He has featured them in the WXRT studio several times as well as featuring their music on WXRT. "If there is any better song writing in the rock realm, I'm unaware of it" said Milne. "This album is in my top 10 favorite albums of all time. I'm completely head over heels in love with this band, and I can't believe that no record company has realized that they could sell millions of this recording. "America Needs..." is a songwriting masterpiece with lyrical brilliance, dynamic, intricate musical textures and sheer rock and roll genius."You might imagine with a name like Rock Star Club, this band consisted of glam dressed superstars with cheezy overproduced rock tunes and bad hair. Don't let the name fool you. Instead you get a band with critically acclaimed song writing, an awe inspiring live performance, and personalities that make you want to name your children after them.

    Artist History
Meeting at Purdue University in 1993, Chuck Tipton, Eli Sabbagh and Paul Kasprzak formed Rock Star Club after the rise and fall of their previous band, Young Lords. As Marty Behm of the Chicago Tribune wrote, "Rock Star Club is really three guys from Indiana (who write) autobiographical tale(s) of three "regular" guys from the musical hotbed of northern Indiana looking for chicks, cold beer, and just maybe, a record deal."

RADIO QUOTES------------------------------------James Van Osdol WKQX Q101 "I didn't want to like this band because of their name, but now that I've listened to it I can't stop" -Richard Milne, WXRT 93.1 "Quadraphenia meets Husker Du, I'm not kidding. Wow, Rock Star Club completely knocked me out at a show I caught Saturday night at Thurston's. Man, I love their tape but I wasn't sure they could pull it off live, just a fantastic show! The band hassuch a good time and has such stage presence. RockStar Club maybe the best band in Chicago right now."PRESS---------------------------------Chicago Sun-Times May 2000 "The Entertainer" ** 1/2 The churning hard-rock grooves, gruff vocals, ironic posing and fairly muddy mix of this 14-song album recall the early heyday of a like-minded Chicago combo, Urge Overkill. Paul Kasprzak has yet to perfect the formula--this is no "Saturation"--but it is at least entertaining as promised. "You guys are pretty good; how come nobody knows who you are?" he sings. A fair question. - Jim DeRogatis-------------------------------Home Pride ProductionsThe Entertainer Rock Star Club (GDR! Records)I dig all kinds of songwriters, but there is a rare straightforward few that sing exactly what's on their minds with a refreshing lack of pretense or metaphor. Rock Star Club songwriter/guitarist/singer Paul Kasprzak writes the kind of free association, heart-on-the-sleeve songs that make me miss John Lennon. The band's new concept album, "The Entertainer" has it all?love (Stay With You), anger, bewilderment, frustration (The Entertainer, The Greatest Song Ever Written, Turning Point), death (Hoon, Wonder Wagon), and plenty of humor and rock and roll attitude (all tracks). The "concept" is Kasprzak's life (as alter-ego Delbert Cain) and the "fucked up things he does and says." The words don't always rhyme and the stories aren't always pretty, but that's what life is like too, isn't it? Rock Star Club displays power trio chops with stop-time arrangements and a dramatic control of dynamics. At various points, Kasprzak's playing exhibits rock guitar influences such as James Hetfield (Metallica), Pete Townshend and Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), and "This Song's About Partying" is such a dead-on Kiss tribute that one half expects to see Paul Stanley's name in the songwriting credits rather than Paul Kasprzak's. "I don't know anything," Kasprzak admits, "but rock and roll." Although it may not come particularly easily or painlessly, rock is certainly one thing that comes NATURALLY to Kasprzak and fellow club members Chuck Tipton (bass, vocals) and Eli Sabbagh (drums). (Special honorable mention goes to John Kemper for the sound samples that show up between almost every number. These add a broad cinematic pulp media brush stroke to the whole experience). "I ain't no goddamned entertainer," Kasprzak insists, but if you can dig honest, hard-hitting rock, then Rock Star Club is sure to keep you entertained. When they have something to say, they rock. When they've said their piece, the song stops. Hardly anybody has the balls to make rock and roll like this anymore. -Review by David Joost
