    Press Reviews
?This isn?t just folk music, this is real and this is life. The sweet licks of the guitar charmed together with the knowing sound of his voice give off such sweetness. There is peace of mind to be found in the drifting melodies and yet the depth of meaning in the songs creates a longing for the betterment of mankind. The record is a passionate, poetic, and enlightening journey. What more is there to say about Browning other than, this is amazing.?Barbara Doll, Exclaim, TORONTO?Touchingly personal and daringly dark, YEARS OF SADNESS is soulful sacrifice the old fashioned way.?Melissa Martin, Uptown Magazine, WINNIPEG?The guy calls his album YEARS OF SADNESS and damned if it isn?t anywhere near as dour as its title portends. In fact, this wistful Canadians music is quite winsome and charming. And while Browning certainly has studied his share of early Neil Young albums, YEARS OF SADNESS stands ably on its own. Gasoline plows the pop-folk furrow capably enough but its cuts like Horses & Whitewater Rain with its haunting pedal steel and the direct intimacy of Lone Pilgrim (part 1) that set YEARS OF SADNESS apart from the crowded folk field.?Bob Klanac, Scene Magazine, LONDON?The fine, Vancouver-based singer-songwriter?s second album is a collection of intelligent, questing folk rock tunes. With West Coast vet Jim Foster as his producer, Browning captures a sweet, introspective mood on Horses & Whitewater Rain, Jericho, and the two part, Lone Pilgrim.?Jeff Bateman, The Record, TORONTO?Listening to his music is to take a trip back to a late 60?s ? early 70?s coffehouse for some down-home minimalist storytelling.Gasoline, the first track, grips the listener. Goodbyes Said To Everybody is an immediate standout as is Working Poor. Jericho sounds like it could have earned a place on Pink Floyd?s opus, The Wall, perhaps with Neil Young guesting on harmonica.?Richard Amery, Daily Miner & News, KENORA?If you like John Bottomley, Neil Young?s HARVEST, Bob Dylan?s JOHN WESLEY HARDING, or Lenny Gallant, you?ll love this guy.?Marla Cranston, Daily News, HALIFAX?Browning has crafted a confident record that falls between plaintive folk and subdued country. Acoustic beauties like ?Working Poor? and ?Lone Pilgrim (part 1)? steer the record toward the land of the uplifting. Years of Sadness is the kind of album you want in your CD player when you?re on the road late at night, on a Greyhound perhaps, knowing you?ve got 200 more miles of rainy asphalt ahead before you sleep.?Mike Usinger, Georgia Straight, VANCOUVER ?I had my misgivings at first. After all, Browning?s new CD is called, ahem YEARS OF SADNESS. But there wasn?t much in the way of despair in his performance. Playing solo, Browning delved into his repertoire of songs to keep the packed crowd mesmerized.?Kennedy Gordon, Sudbury Star, SUDBURY?A profound thinker ? judging by his first two albums at least ? Browning has a knack for getting to the heart of matters in everyday life and love. With his new album YEARS OF SADNESS, Browning has taken the next step of weaving his emotional lyrics together with the roots and folk music stylings established on his debut, MEXICO. Someone who creates an atmosphere and a mood just by sitting down to play, Browning has been known to stop coffeehouse and club chatter the moment he begins playing.?Gerry Krochak, Leader-Post, REGINA?The sort of guy you?d find at the back of a Saskatoon-bound Greyhound sitting next to Ron Sexsmith. Producer John Bottomley?s cozy-sunset backdrop gives Browning a glimpse of the warm, classic country-rock he?s shooting for. Undeniably pleasant Canadiana.?Stuart Berman, Eye Magazine, TORONTO
