Press Reviews
For Ron Baker, it's the message that matters most. Of course, the music has its place, but it never comes before the main purpose of Impact, three-piece Christian rock group that Baker put together to glorify God. "I tell people that if they can't hear the words, they might as well go to a bar and see another band." said Baker, a guitarist who formed the band 2 1/2 years ago. "We're not here to get applause or attention; we're here to show people what God has done in our lives."CAPTION: Impact, a local Christian rock group, performs at a recent gig. The group (guitarist Ron Baker, drummer Alisa Umholtz (Bodai) and bass player Steve Bodai), is one of the area's most popular Christian rock bands."We play the weirdest places you can imagine," said Alisa Umholtz (Bodai), 21, a drummer for Impact and Surrendered. "We've played bookstores, church coffeehouses, in a mall and in a park in Lake George." Impact's Baker said the band even played a gig in a Gloversville shopping plaza's parking lot on the back of a tractor's trailer. To play steadily means you have to hit the road if you're a Christian band: groups like Impact travel the eastern seaboard to play shows, for little pay, Baker said."We're just desiring to do what God wants us to do." said Baker. "It's a struggle sometimes, but when you go out and perform and have people come up to you afterwards and tell you that you spoke to their heart, there's a peace you get from that that makes it all worthwhile." |
