    Artist History
Yves Ramette, a French composer, was born in Bavay, France, where his father was the director of a local school. From a very young age, Ramette was instintively attracted towards music and at the age of seven he began learning the violin, piano, and musical notation. At the age of fourteen, while attending secondary school at Beauvais Lycee, he began lessons in advanced harmony. After finishing his studies in the humanities, Ramette entered the Conservatoire National de Musique de Paris where he studied theory from Jacques de la Presle as well as counterpoint and fugue from Simonne Ple-Caussade. It was there that he began serious study of composition with noted French composer Arthur Honnegger at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. He won first prize in composition in 1945. He also began the study of conducting from Eugene Bigot and continued his studies in violin from Robert Duforestel and piano with Lelia Gousseau and Lazare Levy. From 1947 to 1953, Ramette was the director of academics as well as the principal instructor in notation and organ at the Schola Cantorum in Paris. Later he was named the organist and the "Maitre de Chapelle" at the Saint Ferdinand de Ternes church in Paris but resigned in 1990 due to a disagreement with the religious authorities over the discontinuation of devotional music and the introduction of a poor and vulgar liturgy. In 1968 he founded a mixed choir, "Vox Ardens" to promote devotional and secular choral music of the tradition romantic and moderm masters, where he served as director giving concerts throughout France until 1987. Since 1990, Ramette has dedicated himself to composition and he continues to practice the organ and his favorite instrument, the piano. An avid reader, Ramette's preferences range from Greek and Latin classics to the authors of the Middle Ages as well as the great Classics and historical texts. He is an author of a book called "Grandeur et Decadence d'une tribune" (translation: Grandeur and Decadence of a Tribune).
