Artist description
Recently established by Christos and Mary Papoutsy, this 20-piece ensemble offers a wide variety of instrumentation and a unique and sophisticated sound. The repertoire features selections from contemporary Greek composers such as Theodorakis and Hadjidakis, as well as traditional folk music. The mission of the Hellenic and Near Eastern Musical Society, of which the Ensemble represents only one component, is to promote and enhance awareness of Greek and Near Eastern music in America. In order to achieve these goals the society plans to develop an education program to encourage young musicians to collect and archive recordings and music. Members of the Society believe that music represents a key elemen of Hellenic and Near Eastern culture, transcending all boundaries of age, politics, religion, ethnic origin, and socioeconomic status. Unique in its many artistic forms, the music serves as a universal language, appreciated and understood by all. VISIT US ON THE WEB: http://www.helleniccomserve.com |
