Artist History Air Design is Matt Traum's smooth jazz project. Matt's songwriting collaborations are also available on MP3.com at http://www.mp3.com/Matt_Traum. Matt began recording the music of Air Design in the mid 1980's. Many of these pieces are sketches that were completely written and recorded in the course of one or two evenings. Matt's main lead instrument is his MIDI EVI wind controller- essentially an "electronic trumpet". This instrument, which is hand built by inventor Nyle Steiner, is played like a trumpet but it controls a synthesizer. Thus it can sound like anything. Matt has worked professionally in many areas of the music business. In 1984, he founded Patchman Music (www.patchmanmusic.com) - a leading sound design company. (Patchman Music sounds and samples are featured extensively in his recordings as well as with artists such as Ricky Martin, Tom Scott, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Dianna Ross, Stevie Wonder, The Tonight Show Band, Simply Red, and many others.) Matt has also written numerous pieces of music for commercials and industrial videos, sang and played flugelhorn on a Billboard-charting dance CD by The Exotic Birds, and he is the Founder/Music Director of one of the top dance bands in Northern Ohio. He holds a Batchelor's degree in Jazz and Pop Composition from the Ohio State University. He is proficient on several instruments and also sings.
