Press Reviews
Review of Soulless' 5 song demo "Reverend John's Blues" by Andrew Miller PITCH WEEKLY-As a literal interpretation would imply, heavy music seems to carry a lot of weight in the local music scene. Tossing another anvil onto the scale is SOULLESS, a mid-pace metal group in the vein of the Sabbath-worshiping Pantera side project, Down. With Ozzy-style vocals and catchy riffs, this is one of the area's more accessible hard rock bands. The somber "Gone," with its clean guitar intro and memorable refrain In the end we'll see who dies, provides the album's songwriting highlight, while the opener "She Is", with its thick drum sound and bludgeoning breakdown, offers the best showcase for the group's powerful rhythm section. Welcome touches, such as Alice in Chains-type melodies and quality guitar solos, ensure that SOULLESS has enough bite to survive in a tough crowded market. |
