Artist description
On the air weekly since October 1, 2000, Radio Crystal Blue is an Internet-only noncommercial program done in the old freeform tradition. RCB was created out of my love for both music and radio. I play a great mix of music, from the archaic and lost classics, to the new and cutting-edge. No Top 40, corporate-based playlists here! Each program begins at 7:30pm, though I actually switch the servers on at 7:15pm to play a warmup set. Then, it’s at least 5 hours of music and insight. I approach the music with a serendipitous flowing pattern to it. The Playlist Page can now be found at http://cblue.lunarpages.com It is where you can hear RCB in mp3 format and check the playlists of the last 3 programs.
Also look for the RCB Showcase pseudo-live webcast, now available. Cool!

Artist History
Radio Crystal Blue began life on Live365 on October 1, 2000 I was playing music and reading news for 2 hours every Sunday night. Then I switched to Tuesday nights 730p-1000pm EST(current time) after the Christmas holidays. I have chosen artists on mp3.com and iuma.com for airplay, always lending a hand to artists seeking airplay. |

I'm Dan Herman..Aquarian, Scorpio Moon, Leo rising. 31, single, originally brought up on the streets of Brooklyn, NY. No I never had the accent! I grew up with a great love of AM-rock from the 70's. My signature song is "Crystal Blue Persuasion." I also loved Bennett, Sinatra. After discovering Top 40 radio on WPLJ and Jim Kerr in 1982, that was it! Or so I thought. After 1986, I was paying attention to more of the sounds from Brooklyn, namely the rap, Beastie Boys, disco, etc. After a friendship I struck up in 1991 with a band member of the False Prophets(kin musicians to Dead Kennedys, Black Flag and that ilk), I really began my modern education in music. And life too, for that matter. I think it was the Pixies "Trompe Le Monde" that started my interest in alternative music. I have a collection of 155 CDs and many mp3s at this moment. I have a large Beastie Boys collection. Also of the Clash, Ramones, Pixies(natch), Sex Pistols, Bettie Serveert, Hendrix, and too many other artists to mention here. My best musical moment was meeting Elastica backstage at Bowery Ballroom 10/00, playing music of both albums. Art Bell I cite as an influence. www.artbell.com He has a talk show about the paranormal and unexplained activities. I love his style and delivery(insightful...no call screener..open to whatever happens)Vin Scelsa is my other hero, longtime NYC radio DJ, icon of freeform radio since 1967. Currently heard on www.wfuv.org. I style myself after his broadcast, taking songs and quietly exploring, segueing into others. Very personal and honest...and always a great journey, sitting with the man's record collection in your home. |
