    Press Reviews
“If you only listen to two tracks on this CD, make it ‘Sugar Tip?(track 4) and ‘IRT #6 Downtown?(track 7). I think you’ll be astounded by the range of these two pieces and their unique beauty.?- Frank Malton, IMHO“From the cascading metrical rigor of ‘Archangel?to the wide screen Technicolor spectacle of ‘Dissonance is Gliss? to the subtle breath of ‘IRT #6?to the deconstructed postmodern Gutbucket Blues of ‘Sugar Tip? this CD covers a lot of ground. Full of sumptuous textures and vertiginous stylistic leaps, its breadth and richness is all the more surprising in that it was all produced live on stage by a duo.?- Elspeth Thomas, Madison Apoplectic“Raw and polished works sit side by side on this zany-yet-serious CD. Some big powerful pieces are interspersed with tiny little jewel-like interludes. The one misstep is the scatological, Zappaesque ‘Bad Smells?which this reviewer could well do without (though my (grown) kids loved it). - Warning: this is the only track with lyrics, and they are (slightly) explicit.?- Andrew Peters, Charleston Crier“I have rarely heard such range in any musical agglomeration. The music is vast, sweeping, theatrical and cinematic. At only 47 minutes, I was left panting for more.?- Jonathan Kearney, WMJ “Very uneven. My responses veered from a sort of hypnotic thrall to annoyance. - Kate Milliner, Poultice?Donald Gets Off?and “I-Spy?are keyboard tour-de-force performances by Ms. Lowman. Her playing is assured and very energetic, with an innate flair for the dramatic. I was puzzled about all of the guitar that the liner notes alleged Mr. Claiborne to be playing on many tracks until I saw them on stage. It turns out that a lot of the ‘keyboards?I had heard on the CD were really guitar, sometimes electronically processed, sometimes just played with strange techniques that rendered it unrecognizable.?- Peter Milam, Onus“Sure, some of this music might be called ‘New Age? but just barely. It’s not easy-listening music. It takes you on trips. It’s like a drug, a passionate drug. You need to sit down with this CD and loose your earthly bonds and slip away for awhile? Though I loved the unique and searing Blues of “Sugar Tip? it didn’t fit in - it brought me back to earth too hard and too fast. I would have preferred it on another type of album? ‘Bad Smells?was hysterical! I was laughing so hard my guts hurt. It was the perfect last track.?- Kelty Prior, Mckenney Irregular“I simply couldn’t believe that the guitar on ‘Sugar Tip?was played without a whammy bar! An anti-virtuoso, virtuoso performance.?- Dan Kale, Guitar Fiend Newsletter“IRT #6 Downtown 3 A.M. is an out and out masterpiece. It’s a new-age Sunday Mass - with a sweeping grandeur that is somehow paradoxically subtle and meditative. I didn’t like it at all at first, but I have a rule that I listen to everything I review at least three times before I pass judgement. Now, the seamless communication between the viola and synths, the breath and grace of it, haunt me. I’m afraid it’s altered my brain structure or DNA, like a virus or something.?- Kate Maldonado, Fire Eater
