    Artist History
Alien8 has been going since early 1999 with one guitarist replaced in early 2000...The band came together when Jared-W,Age-A and Shane-S formerly of Last Rite advertised for a singer....Along came Karl-C (formerly of Sanction) who joined on the spot...But Shane-S who was drummer at the time wanted to leave so Karl mentioned a drummer he knew...Jason-H (formerly of Lemon Spitfire and best drummer in Wellington)...joined after one jam...We had a guitarist called Ken-G at the time who decided to leave in early 2000 and back came Shane who's real instrument is guitar....The line-up remains unchanged and we have an EP floating round....Alien8 playing live is the only real way to hear this band... The EP will give a taster but A8 live is a red hot energy experience...

Alien8 Prototype Alienation Records Reviewed by Simon Sweetman Wellington's Alien8 are pure metal. Old school, you might say, but in a current market of pop and dance saturation, I find this authentic replication of metal quirks incorporated within totally original, vibrant new songs particularly refreshing. I am unsure as to how well it will do commercially - but I am sure, in a way that's not entirely the principle aim here. Besides, there's an overt musicality evident within the workings of this tight five-piece. Not only have they learned their scales, listened to 70s prog-rock and absorbed early Metallica, they match interest and influence with their own performing ability. And they've gone about this EP the right way: production values high, the end result, lush and loving of their craft. No expense spared - instead of the old burnt CD (and I am not knocking that, I think you should get the music out whichever way you can) - but here, we have a full colour foldout cover inlay, with reprinted lyrics and full production credits. So, six tracks sounding great represented well and a definate new spin on an old formula. Check the instrumental 'Rain Dance' for evidence of the melody that can take place of formulaic riffing in metal - but for full analysis of a good form of pure riffing see opening track 'Sever' - either way, fans of music should be happy. It's good to have bands like Alien8; they've worked hard, gathered the funds and released a worthwhile and diverse EP. Worth examining...
