    Press Reviews
The following review first appeared at Indie-Music.com. ---Artist: 2Boss Vega; CD: "Game of Inches" ---Reviewed By Les Reynolds--- "To paraphrase a popular saying: influence, influence, influence. This big Wisconsin-based band with the funny name is a walking musical encyclopedia of sorts. Vocally fronted by Ron Ehli and Terry White, it seems the spirit of no less than a dozen other artists materialize in this 15-song treasure. However, 2BV'sdebut should not be mistaken for a copy of anybody. So, curious yet? Who shows up? Vocally, Dave Matthews, Keb Mo and Eric Clapton. Instrumentally, Dr. John, Clapton again, Little Feat, Santana, Elvis, The Band, Bruce Hornsby, and the list could go on... Who's actually in the band? Ehli and White, of course, Rich Venske, Dan Glaser, Ellwood Skogstad, Jack Seiden, Bruce Benedon and Rajesh Alwa. In addition, there is Armie Villareal and White's sister Karin on vocals. What's it all sound like? Overall, the CD is a collection of energy from a mix of jazz, blues, pop and rock 'n' roll with crystal-clear lyrics and well-crafted instrumentation. In general, this is a top-notch set of tunes. Perhaps the onlydisappointment is that the beautiful female voices are a bit underused and slightly "hidden" -- they could have done with more "visibility". It wouldn't be quite fair to pin labels of "best" on any particular tune since they are all good, but if highlights could be chosen, go with the third track for the women's voices and the last cut, a powerful instrumental piece -- a perfect way to end the CD. It should be noted again, that 2Boss Vega is not an attempt to carbon copy any other bands or musicians -- there is no mistaking their own true sound. But with so many members with diverse backgrounds, other musical influences can't help but surface. And there's always that wonderful possibility for any number of combinations of sounds on future CDs..."Game of Inches" should be the first of many, many more." ------------------------------ BEN OHMART wrote in @NZONE magazine:---2 Boss Vega - Game of Inches:---"'four o'clock in the morning, I'm in the swimmin' pool / the sky's tryin' to get orange out of midnight blue... / some guys hear the warning, some guys just get fooled, / some guys try to get out alive with the family jewels'. This is 'Just Tell Me', a cool rock song in the style of Dire Straits and other low-key, let's rock at 4 in the morning bands with plenty of voices.'Albert Einstein Blues' isn't blue. On the contrary, it's like the wake for a 60s folk star: guitar, tickling piano chords, a little electric guitar in the corner. Don't forget to invite more people over for the chorus, and bring your tambourine! 'I guess this is my time, to use or lose / you don't have to be albert einstein / to have the albert einstein blues'.There's a live quality to this cd, like a soundboard quality recording minus the audience. Of course it could be the party of voices that pipe in from time to time that throws me. Anyway, a little blues, a little soft rock, a little 60s grass, a lot of fun."---------------------------earBuzz.com Review:--- The band, 2BossVega, named by putting all the band member's initials together, is an eight piece from Wisconsin, and their 15 song CD release, "Game of Inches", is a substantial and musically fun trip. They employ rock and blues based tunes ala Doobies and hints of the Dead, along with baritone vocals and lyrics that, in part, protect the masculine heart. Musically, the arrangements are straight ahead and simple enough, laying a foundation for the inventive and sometimes humorous lyrics from vocalist, Ron Ehli. In the first track, "Just Tell Me", Ehli sings, 'four o'clock in the morning, I'm in the swimming pool... some guys hear the warning, some guys just get fooled, some guys try to get out alive with the family jewels'. Track 6, "Don't Want to Know", is an inspiring blues number with incredible and naturally backing vocals that fill up the left and right channels - complete with sparse and tasty lead blues guitar fills throughout. Lyrics, again, employ tongue-in-cheek reality: 'cause I got velocity and spin, where you goin', where you been? keep an eye out, or you'll find out, about pissin' in the wind.' Track 9, "Rear View Mirror", is one of the more musically ambitious tunes on the record - a guitar based medium rocker with spacey feel and Frampton like vocal performance - and the most beautiful arrangement and guitar solo on the CD, mp3'd here. The Vega's move into a straight ahead blues with track 14's, "Reason Why" - putting to words the universal theme of love confusion, 'I don't mind her leavin', I'll never cry, But I just can't sleep, I've got no appetite, there just don't seem to be no reason why'. Cool collection from the Boss gang who's main purpose in music is to have fun - and that spirit clearly arrives with each track of their consistent and well-done record."
