Artist History
John Daniel Coe is a Country/Christian artist living in Nashville, Tennessee. He sings demos for several publishing houses and recently signed an exclusive writing contract with a major gospel music publishing firm based in Nashville. He and his brother, Stephen Coe, and father, Marvin "Smoky" Coe, have been nominated, as Project Writers, the past two years for a Dove Award.......................................................................From his early days playing in clubs in and around Charlotte, North Carolina, John Daniel quickly emerged as a compelling artist whose lyrics and emotional delivery reached out to touch his audiences. Like the legends of country music, he has that "everyman" touch that endears him to his fans.......................................................................Paul Johnson, Program & Promotions Director of two of Charlotte, NC's biggest radio stations, and Program Director of MRN's nationally syndicated "Racin' Country USA" knows John Daniel Coe well. He states it this way…"At an early stage, John Daniel learned what many singers never seem to discover -- the heart of country music is in its songs. He has developed a knack for finding great songs, then "owning" them with convincing "from the heart" performances."......................................................................John Daniel Coe began his career like many of the industry's great performers, singing in church. This early musical interest led the young artist to go on the road full-time at age 14 with a gospel group. John Daniel's musical interests have been diverse -- from gospel, to rock & roll, to Top 40 -- but finally he focused all his energy exclusively on his real love, country music. He has shared the stage with such stars as Garth Brooks, Lorrie Morgan, Dwight Yoakam, Tobie Keith, Steve Wariner, Mary Chapin Carpenter, John Anderson and more.......................................................................John Daniel's career received a major jolt the last several weeks. John and brother, Stephen, had recently been working on a CD of NASCAR racing-related material. Ironically, during the race that claimed the life of NASCAR legend, Dale Earnhardt, the brothers had been completing "Tracks of Gold", a song about fallen NASCAR heroes. The next morning, John debuted the song on Charlotte area radio stations, who began distributing the song to their sister stations all over the country. Television coverage quickly followed, combining the song with video footage of Earnhardt and other fallen drivers. Before the week was over, John Daniel was doing phone and live interviews with stations coast to coast. In his own words, John says, "The outpouring of emotion over this song has been phenomenal. The cards, letters and emails we have received have been amazing. Dale Earnhardt touched so many lives in so many ways. We are humbled to be a part of the healing through this tribute." |

Press Reviews
Coe thrills fans for hours at Media Play By Laura Fiorilli, Photo by Sallie Turner Gazette Staff Reporter - Gastonia Gazette 3/4/01 -GASTONIA — Hundreds of NASCAR fans raced to Media Play on Saturday, making Gaston Mall look like a speedway on race day. They came to hear country singer John Daniel Coe, a Gastonia native, perform songs that echo their love of racing and feelings of loss at the death of star driver Dale Earnhardt. Coe has found success in country radio with his tribute to fallen NASCAR drivers, "Tracks of Gold." The song hit the airwaves just after Earnhardt was killed on the final lap of last month’s Daytona 500. Written by Coe and his lawyer brother, Stephen, "Tracks of Gold" envisions a heavenly racetrack where the "sun always shines" and drivers "race all the time." Coe started signing autographs Saturday after a quick performance inside the store and was scheduled to stop at 6 p.m. But he was still going strong at 6:45, Media Play manager Rod Rehfuss said. Rehfuss wasn’t sure how many copies of Coe’s CD sold Saturday but estimated the crowd at 400 to 450. Diehard enthusiasts, many in Earnhardt T-shirts and hats, stuck around to have Coe sign copies of his CD and other Earnhardt merchandise. "We’re definitely the number one Dale fans," said Linda Hill, of Gastonia, and Angela Bolick, of Mount Holly. The autograph collectors were in for a slow ride. Lena Ballew said she and her family came to Media Play at 2:30 to wait in line for Coe’s 4 p.m. performance. The Ballews, of Bessemer City, bought six CDs for Coe to sign. Several in the crowd said it was worth the wait to reach Coe’s table and share a few words with him. "I told him I was very glad God gave him these words, and I’m glad he shared them with everyone else," said Stephanie Rebain just after she spoke to Coe. Earnhardt’s death touched Rebain and her mother on a personal level, she said. When Earnhardt died, they were mourning the recent death of Rebain’s stepfather, who had won Dale Earnhardt lookalike contests, she said. The mother and daughter spoke just minutes before the fateful Daytona 500, she said, of how they felt Earnhardt was keeping their loved one’s spirit alive. On Saturday, Coe and his audience did the same for Earnhardt. |
