Artist History
The members of Ded Poetic have been playing music together since January of 1997. They began under a different name playing the typical alternative rock style. Early on, they began to experiment with punk, rap, rock, and hardcore elements to define a truly unique musical style. In April of 1999, they began to concentrate on a harder style of music reminiscent of Project 86, Rage Against the Machine and P.O.D. They began playing shows nearly every weekend in Ohio and surrounding states. They recorded their first EP as Mindset entitled “Invasion.” This EP featured a rap-rock style with Influences of Rage Against the Machine and Zao. Rick May (drummer of DCTalk, Jennifer Knapp, Zilch, Walter Eugenes, etc.) produced the EP. The band began playing more and more shows in promotion of the EP. During 2000, the band continued to try harder and harder to break out of a musical mold that so many rap-rock bands are put into. They began experimentation with vocals, as well as different guitar tones to break the mold even further. Bands such as Deftones, Staind, and newer Project 86, as well as various emo bands heavily influenced the band. Currently, Ded Poetic feels as though a style all their own has been reached. Ded Poetic's sound consists of continually hammering beats, while implementing emotional melodies throughout the piece. Vocals range from a whispering tone to a raging scream. Ded Poetic was formerly known as Mindset, and changed their name to Ded Poetic in April 0f 2001. Ded Poetic’s latest work is a a 2-song ep, featuring a more-matured musical style. Ded Poetic feels as though being together for four years and constant experimentation are contributing factors to the unity and chemistry that is between them. Above all else, be different. |
