Artist History
THE HELLBOUND TRUCKERS ?The Hellbound Truckers? are a band from the east side of Columbus. They are a Roots/Rockabilly/ Honky Tonk band with a sound all their own. The Truckers feature three generations of Rockabilly players. With country/rockabilly veteran Gene Antle (over 30 years fronting ?The Blue Ribbon Boys? in Columbus) on vocals and guitar, the Truckers have a true, original sound. Old-timers and young fans of Hank Sr. are sure to enjoy Gene?s unique, hillbilly style. Also, on lead guitar is Darby Antle, known for his crazy stage antics and kooky guitar riffs. Darby is the nephew of ?Buzz and the Flyers? guitarist Michael Gene. The Truckers feature the mighty slap of the big bull bass, played by the dedicated horseman, Mark R. Antle. The Hellbound Truckers will make you get on your feet and dance, or stay off your feet and order another drink. Their CD ?I Just Wanna Beat the Livin Shit Outta You?contains songs ranging from Old Style Country,Rockabilly,Psychobilly, Truckabilly, to Horse-a-Billy. |

Rock Your Mistletoe ShowDecember 16, 2000@ The MaplegroveHellbound TruckersLonesome Willy and His Red Star RangersDavid Loy Band After being lost for nearly 2 hours, we finally find the Maplegrove. We missed the first few bands but did get to catch most of the Hellbound Truckers. I have heard a lot about this band and had high expectations that were met! A honky-tonk, hillbilly rockin band with Grandpa on guitar and vocals, son on the upright and grandson on guitar. There is also a “cousin” on drums and one on steel guitar. These guys are great to see live, especially to watch the 16 or so year old grandson, Darby, on his guitar. I can really see him going far, kinda reminds me of Ronnie Dawson. They are a local band from Columbus, Ohio and so I hope I get to see them again. Next up was the Red Star Rangers who I feel have improved stylistically since I have seen them last time. They went from a more modern country sound to a fun dancing rockabilly groove. I really enjoyed watching their set and couldn’t help shaking my butt. The biggest surprise of the night, however, for me was David Loy. I had heard he was a funk/pop guitar player and was curious as to why he was playing a rockabilly show. He was fabulous! He did all covers of great rocking oldies that his band had practiced only 3 times before, and had so much enthusiasm he won me over right away. He also has a very fun loving attitude and carries on dialogue with the audience and has the makings of a stand up comic. -LM |
