Press Reviews
This review was from a cd by our former band.Pop Culture Press Web ExclusiveMarch 6, 2000NXBIGTHING (six mile hill)? (Royal Flush)The debut album by this NYC rock/pop duo wouldhave probably been a big hit a few years ago, hadit been produced by Butch Vig and mixed by AndyWallace. It's smart melodic rock with wry wordplay disguising emotional turmoil (i.e. "Glass of Whine"), which used to be a formula for surefire success. Not that singer/songwriters Kenny Sherman and Todd Anthony likely care much about trends or marketability; they just like fuzzy guitars, harmonies and pop hooks. Plus they're fine songwriters, and in a just world the rocking "Happy All the Time," the spooky "I and I" ("No one else could ever have you/That's the way it has to be/We will leave this world together," they croon over a lovely folk/pop melody) and the impossibly strong opener "Above the World of Angels" would be hits no matter what the market trends dictated.
