Artist description
Winner of the 2000 Los Angeles Music Awards for Best Male Singer Songwriter, Kevin Henry has released an alternative pop/rock album that is certain to carry the "singer/songwriter" genre to a new level.Featuring 11 original songs, including his pre-released hit single, "Next Year", (popularized by the NBC sitcom, "Friends"), Henry's debut solo album, "East On Sunset", takes you on an emotional road trip from utter resentment to ultimate resolution, exploring the subtle ironies of love gone bad, botched attempts at finding perfection, and the electric highs and lows discovered on the artist's pilgrimage from New York to Los Angeles.“Love is like a spontaneous road trip where you don’t know what weather to pack for," says Henry. "All your baggage ends up useless in the end.” Kevin Henry expresses his experiences through music that draws upon diverse traditions ranging from Nat “King” Cole to Bjork.Combining cutting edge programming with cello, layered electric guitars with a grooving upright bass line, and seductive yet catchy melodies with quirky poetic lyrics, Kevin Henry and his band utilize the best devises of pop and rock in the album's musical arrangements."East On Sunset" was recorded in Madison, WI at Smart Studios, owned by producer Butch Vig, and home to the recordings of Garbage, Nirvana, and Smashing Pumpkins. With his detailed personal lyrics, his eclectic pop/rock musical style, and a voice that won him “Outstanding Vocal Performance By A Male Singer Songwriter” at the 2000 Los Angeles Music Awards, Kevin Henry has created in "East On Sunset" one of the most unique albums to come out in years. All songs written by Kevin Henry.Produced by Kevin Henry & Roman Ciuni. All rights owned by Coastal Records, a division of Grand Mariner Productions, Inc.Copyright 2001.ASCAP |

Artist History
Kevin Henry was born and raised in the progressive city of Madison, Wisconsin, once described as "15 square miles surrounded by reality". It was the ideal environment for the young artist, of which he took full advantage: singing and playing the piano by the age of 4, publishing his first song at 8, and performing regularly in civic theatre productions from 6th grade on.At the age of 18, Henry moved to New York City's infamous East Village where he expanded his creative development under the sharper realities of the city. After graduating cum laude from N.Y.U. with a degree in Dramatic Literature, Henry formed his first band, a 7-piece jazz-funk project named "GOTHAM", with whom he released the CD "Invisible Ghetto" and toured the U.S. and Europe. After the break-up of GOTHAM, Henry collaborated on the trip-hop album "Outlet" by producer Joe Wize, and wrote/produced 3 songs for R&B singer Tina Moore.Henry then relocated to Los Angeles where he and his current band (all USC Music School graduates)have built a strong following of Angelinos, continually selling out shows at numerous Hollywood venues. Kevin Henry performed in two ASCAP sponsored showcases for The Hollywood Stock Exchange, was a featured act at the first annual EAT’M conference in Las Vegas, and was brought to Panama for a series of sold out shows on military bases. In November of 1999, Kevin Henry released the single, "Next Year". Warner Bros. Television quickly picked up the song for the New Year’s episode of NBC’s hit comedy, "Friends".After a six-week radio promotion, “Next Year” charted at #39 Pop and #7 “Most Added” on the New Music Weekly chart. The single also reached the #23 “Top 40 Most Added” and #77 Hot A/C positions on the Friday Morning Quarterback chart. In addition to "Next Year", Henry has had numerous songs appear on CBS' "Nash Bridges" and the E! Entertainment Television documentary, "Club Vegas".In November 2000, Kevin Henry won the 10th Annual Los Angeles Music Award for "Outstanding Vocal Performance By A Male Singer Songwriter", the only award honored in the male singer/songwriter category. With his Los Angeles band mates, Ryan Cross on upright bass, Roman Ciuni on guitar, and Marco Menighin on drums, Kevin Henry is currently touring with his band in support of the album, "East On Sunset". |
