Artist description
How to describe the sound of Rusty Reid... It's a difficult proposition. Start with the fact that it's at least a three-way regional sound, echoing from Texas to Southern California to the Pacific Northwest... with reverb added from many distant lands. Then factor in that there is really nothing exactly like this artist out there on the music horizon. Bits and pieces of artists and styles past and present make quick cameo reflections in certain works. There is definitely a strong 60s lean to much of the work, with tinges of Elvis, Beatles, Doors, Marty Robbins, Roy Orbison, Simon & Garfunkle, Paul Revere & The Raiders and Moby Grape coming through. The 70s are represented in shards of Eagles, ZZ Top, Dan Fogelberg, Emmitt Rhodes, Neil Young and Stephen Stills. The 80s shimmer in Rusty's music through the influences of Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, the Cruzados, U2, XTC, World Party. The 90s have introduced a true world beat, along with a return to garage sensibilities... a true Northwest tradition. Mix in sultry guitar work (including chiming signature riffs straight from the 60s), ultra-melodic, hook-laden song structure, provocative lyrics.. add a voice that crosses Orbison with Petty with Costello... and there you have it!Well, that wasn't so hard, after all. On second thought, maybe you should just listen... |

Press Reviews
"A thoroughbred songwriter, caramel-voiced singer and twang-master guitarist, Rusty Reid is an all-original real deal. This is a must-hear artist if you are still mourning the demise of the 70's singer-songwriters."Northwest Music Network"One of the best of Houston's golden age of singer-songwriters... now living in the Northwest, but always a Texan at heart. Hot As A Pistol, yeah!!!"The Houston Music Guide"A melodic songwriter with a voice of gold. But a word of caution: Do not listen to 'Earthquake City' if you are easily spooked and live in L.A., San Francisco, Seattle, Tokyo or any of the other earthquake cities where the lament of this song will surely someday come to pass. It's a chiller!"San Fernando Valley Express |
