Artist History

In Late 1999 Cleveland, OH offered up one of its’ most promising bands yet. Quickening toed the line ready to win the world over one set of ears at a time. Born from the ashes of the respected bands Hilo, Canis Major, and Hessier, Quickening bring a mix of rhythm, melody, and sweat. Quickening have been earning respect the old fashioned way - By playing out. Sharing stages with Shiner, Hum, Hey Mercedes, Jets To Brazil, Our Lady Peace, American Hi-Fi, Flickerstick, OK Go, and hundreds of local and regional bands-- Quickening have been winning over music lovers with all-out live shows and a steadfast respect for their fan base. Quickening have proved themselves a very studio friendly band as well. The 2001 debut CD “A Victory” and the highly acclaimed self-produced follow up demo “onesandzeros” have kept Quickening fans singing along since their release. “Song writing for us is an effort to define the sound of the band,” explains James Isom, 23, singer/guitarist. “We sculpt our sound with every song instead of writing for one genre”. The primary songwriter for Quickening, Isom sees an opportunity to craft a new brand of rock music… Bringing a seasoned, complementary guitar attack to the band, Justin Haberer, 24, guitar, infuses the Quickening sound with a passive/aggressive dose of ear candy and adrenaline. Bassist Darren Irwin, 24, credits his life long mantra to AC/DC. “I heard Bon Scott singing about being a rock and roll singer,” Irwin says “by the time I started listening to Zeppelin and Devo, I was sure that music was my calling.” Growing up listening to an eclectic group of bands as diverse as The Cars, Gary Numan, Black Sabbath, Slayer, and the Ramones, Irwin brings an unusually robust bottom end to Quickening. Drummer Patrick Ginley, 26, believes self-confidence is one of the keys to making good music…the self-confidence the only comes from years of playing. To Ginley, drumming has always been an emotional outlet, which he demonstrates during every song with his powerful, unique playing. “I like the fact that I can share my music with other people and help them feel the way my favorite musicians made me feel”.

Instruments
James uses various Gibsons, Fenders, and Hamers...He plugs them into a big Marshall. Justin plugs an SG into a Trace Elliot to rock. Darren uses a Fender Jazz that still has the warranty sticker on it, i guess he's worried about something...He plugs it into a huge melting pot of Ampeg and Mesa. Patrick uses a Tama kit...The cymbals he uses are whatever he is loaned while his numerous cracked and shattered cymbals are being processed for replacement...Donations are accepted...James Also uses a Sure SM58 to sing live so he dosn't catch anything...yuck! |
