Artist description MAAD "Musicians Assistance And Development" MAAD the Ross-shire based musicians self help group, has the potential to become the bench mark in Scotland for a Local Musicians support network, they have already provided a showcase for a wide array of local talent through their regular sessions, showpiece events, festivals and the widely acclaimed and highly creditable compilation CD "The MAAD Mix" which was released last year with support from RACE and featured established local artists Like Martin Stephenson and many artists who have other wise previously not been recorded. "The MAAD Mix" is all but sold out and plans are afoot for "MAAD Mix 2"

Artist History Short History Of M.A.A.D. Since it was first constituted as a voluntary non-profit making organisation 2 years ago, Musicians Assistance And Development (Ross and Cromarty) has run regular Sunday afternoon jam session for a time at The Shandwick Hotel Kildary (these days at The Caledonian Hotel Portmahomack) with the occasional songwriters evenings. These were greatly assisted by the early donation of a 100 watt PA system, bass, guitar and keyboard amplifiers and most of a drum kit as well as £200 by Invergordon community arts project. In the summer of 99 MAAD organised a very successful day of music in Aveimore as part of the Highland Festival, who financially sponsored the project, MAAD provided 8 different acts, sound system and engineer, and ran a bus from Ross-shire for musicians and gig goers. In autumn of that year MAAD organised its own one day festival at the Shandwich, which was again a huge success, in terms of Musical content, audience enjoyment and the money raised, a very respectable £1400. It was subsequently decided by the committee that since all musicians had volunteered their services, the money raised should be invested in a MAAD anthology C.D. to highlight the very high standard of original composition and performance of musicians in Ross-shire, encompassing the great diversity of musical styles present in the area. The MAAD mix 1 was produced with the help of the local enterprise company R.A.C.E. An other Day of Music was organised to launch the finished product and the CD was distributed through out the highlands and has all but sold out. Already the MAAD Mix 2 is on the drawing Board. MAAD have forged links with Thurso Collage music department and have provided one day work shops, and a in depth proposal for M.A.A.D Mobile Guitar Tuition though not as yet reaching fruition has greatly assisted local schools in its musical instrument provision policy. MAADs agenda is to continue to provide regular stages for original music and to help nurture new talent. MAAD wishes to explore links with other musician groups and to expand its influence and services all over the Highland Region. MAAD has discussed ways to help its members in all aspects of producing, playing and marketing their music, and initiatives in these area's of music provision are being formulated, including finding venues to stage more MAAD event, exploring avenues of using the internet to bring musicians together in collaborations and exchanges of ideas to promote and sell their work.
