Artist History
Twin-Cities cult heroes The Tropicals (Peter Lawton and Craig Wright--see LINKS above), whose 1996 debut CD "Live at The Jungle" appeared on every local Top 10 list and who toured briefly with national pop phenom Semisonic, joined forces with The Buzza Brothers (AJ and Tim--see LINKS above) and Paul Carpenter in 2000 to form Kangaroo. For years The Buzza Bros. had been perfecting their alt-rock songwriting chops and razor's edge harmonies; The Tropicals, with their Simon and Garfunkelesque style, made for a perfect match. Paul Carpenter, who'd pounded the skins for local faves The Snozberries, neatly rounded out the quintet. the grimm replaced Craig Wright as the keyboard player in July of 2002. Fans of The Tropicals will find the same high-end lyrical content, but with a rougher edge and a much bigger sound. "I always thought The Tropicals had what it takes to make it to the big time," says music critic Jim Walsh of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "Kangaroo is the bobsled that's finally gonna take them there." |
