Artist History
James Theroux Band truly is a house of many rooms, flexible enough to support the many idioms and personalized expressions ready to take it in new directions, yet still it remains true to its roots. James Theroux Band performs original material that is drawn from such varied influences as the folk of Woody Guthrie and Jimmie Rodgers, the country of Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash, the blues of Chicago and the Mississippi Delta and the alt-country rock of artists such as Robert Earl Keen, Wilco, and The Jayhawks. Hard work, hard life, and the conflict between old and new ways give an edge to their music.
The group was originally formed in 1998 by Singer-Songwriter / Guitarist Darren Ellis, who's riveting, rhythmically potent style is born from the rough and tumble juke joint blues of every day life. Darren was joined by Craig Ferguson (Bass Guitar, Mandolin, Vocals & Songwriter), and soon the two had formed a musical partnership based on their mutual love of traditional folk, country-western, blues & swing, with some good old rock thrown in for drinkability.
The band has come fully together with the additions of Alexandria Galkin (Rhythm Guitar & Vocals), Albert Lee Jr. (Drums), Tom Vicson (Lead Guitar), Kirk Brown (Pedal Steel, Dobro Guitar & Fiddle), & Jeremy Long (Keyboards).
As one noted southern California music writer put it, ...this band's hard edge musical style is filled with mystery, sexual innuendo, and their let's get barefooted and have a stinkin' good time attitude... They'll make you laugh, they'll make you cry, they'll make you have a damn good time. |
