Artist description
With well over a 100 years of combined music experience among its bandmembers, Boston-basedFikus (pronounced FIKE-us) forges itsown post-bop. Named after a Scottish term meaning to itch, bother or irritate, the group plays an itchy mix of groove-laden original compositions as well as covers by John Scofield, the Meters, Herbie Hancock and others. Relying mostly on instrumental repertoire, Fikus captivates the audience with its own musical language. The group can be seen gigging regularly around Boston area sometimes dipping its feet into Maine and New Hampshire. Boasting Swiss-native Phil Hilfiker as a saxophone and flute soloist, the band was formed by guitarists Ram Sudama and Misha Rutman and is augmented by one of the sickest rhythm sections this side of Charles River: Michigan-bred bassist Tim Havens and a veteran drummer Geoff Birt. |
