Taking their name from the drummer’s cruelly un-hip real first name and one of their favorite clothing stores, the band’s line-up is another dose of the unexpected. EDITH’S WISH is comprised of African-American women. The band was founded in 1996, and has built a loyal and eager following on the club and college scene throughout the southeast. Brought together by their mutual love of Rock & Roll, Blues & Soul, and such diverse musical influences as Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Sheryl Crow, Lenny Kravitz and the Black Crowes, the band quickly developed their own distinctive sound, best described as straight-ahead Rock & Roll with a taste of Pop. EDITH’S WISH has shared billing with such notables as The Black Crowes, Spacehog, Evan & Jaron, Shawn Mullins, Sister Hazel, Marvelous 3 and Meschelle N’degeocello. Their songs are a blend of authentic, hard-driving rhythms and inspiring and sexy lyrics melded into an intense, edgy and hypnotic sound. Their fan base is surprisingly diverse, ranging from hard core rockers and hip-hop heads to R&B lovers, and even a sprinkling of 30 + plus country “but damn this band is cool” fans. The songs, the style and the band itself leave their audiences something to identify with, be inspired by, and hold on to. The EDITH’S WISH appeal not only crosses musical styles, but also pays no mind to notions about race, sex and culture. These girls rock and this band is something to experience.
