Artist History
"They say write about what you know.." says Dave as he takes a drag off a cheap cigarette, "that's why all my songs are about booze, girls, and rock n roll!" Born and raised in the outskirts of New York City, David P. Meyer began his adventuresome musical career as a trumpet player in his grade school band, then started on guitar at 12...it was all downhill from there! He played in several rock bands, when in 1995 when he joined the band "Temptress", playing lead guitar as "Candi Apples". The "World's Hottest All-Male Girl Group", Also featuring Joe Pet, formerly of the Joe Perry Project, were a band of cross-dressing punks that would have made the New York Dolls and Dr. Frankenfurter equally proud. These world-record-holders (largest rock performance- an estimated audience of 2.2 million people over a 13-hour span in NYC, Halloween 1997) put on a funny and outrageous stage show that had to have been seen to be believed! Toward the end of his time with the band, they recorded a cd that never saw general release. After leaving Temptress in 1998, Dave helped form what can only be described as the ultimate Mstley CrŸe tribute band, "RED H…T". Playing guitar as "Mick Mars", he performs all of the L.A. bands hits, including"Live Wire", "Home Sweet Home", and "Dr. Feelgood". An impressive stage show, which includes pyrotechnics and barely-clad women, accompanies the music. David comments "We look the part, we sound the part, hey- we LIVE the part! We just may very well be the next best thing to the real deal!" In 1999, the band appeared on the internationally distributed "The Second Coming" compilation CD from Versailles Records. Red Hst has regularly performed in clubs packed full of Motley fans all over the east coast, earning them a reputation as one of the U.S' best tribute bands. In the fall of 1999, David played bass guitar in the role of 'Jacek' in the Boston production of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch", providing the low-end thunder for John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask's hit glam rock musical. While having only a limited run at the 57 Theatre in Boston's famed theatre district, it played to sold-out audiences in New York for over three years, where he later substituted alongside Ally Sheedy (High Art, Breakfast Club), Matt McGrath (Boys Don't Cry, The Talented Mr. Ripley), Maggie Moore (The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love, Eye of God) and Joe Pecorino (Beatlemania). Winner of the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, Hedwig is a musical inspired by Plato's Symposium, the triumphant rock and roll journey of "internationally ignored song stylist" Hedwig Schmidt -- from her bizarre childhood to her infamous love affair with rock's greatest icon. Rolling Stone's David Fricke calls Hedwig, "The First Rock Musical That Truly Rocks!" Most recently, Dave has been performing with the world's premier Rolling Stones tribute band "Sticky Fingers". While playing many clubs and colleges across the U.S., they have also performed in such faraway places as Russia and South America. They have the distinction of being one of the longest-established Stones tribute bands, as well as perhaps the most famous, Having appeared in national media and the Jenny Jones TV show. There's no telling what the future holds for David. He plans on achieving worldwide fame and notoriety through his glitter-and-makeup brand of rock n roll. Regardless of what he does, this multi-talented writer, singer, and musician will always exemplify the spirit of the true entertainer. David P. Meyer uses Gibson guitars, Gibson and Peavey basses, Fender, Laney, and Peavey amplifiers, ADA, Boss, DOD, Jim Dunlop, and Ross effects, and Shure microphones. |
