    Artist description
XEX was formed by three musicians who were sick of the stereotypes and politics involved in playing original music. We don't care any more. We are not offended if someone doesn't want to hear our music, and we will never change our sound to "fit in". We write only music that we want to play and nothing else and we don't care what anyone thinks - we will keep doing what we love. We stand for playing music for music's sake - that is satisfying both to us as musicians, and to anyone who wishes to listen.

    Artist History
The members of XEX started playing together in 1991 when they started Damarus, a high school thrash band. Damarus was the ultimate in "teenagers with chops" bands and played several shows at Boise's only punk/metal club at the time: The Crazy Horse. During this time, Pete, Alf, and Bryan learned the meaning of musical freedom - often writing songs that took over ten minutes to play and consisted of every tempo and timing extreme they could think of. That went on until 1993 when Alf left to play bass in Midline, another great local band. Pete and Bryan kept on with Damarus, turning it into a five piece metal monstrosity, cut a CD, and did fairly well in Boise as an original thrash group until the project ended in 1996. After Damarus, Pete and Bryan continued writing music but had trouble finding a bassist who shared their musical vision. About the same time, Alf had left Midline and decided to go back to college. A year passed, and in 1997 Pete was reunited with Alf in a college astronomy class and they decided to get the original band together and jam. It was soon discovered that the musical connection that the three had shared years ago was still there and XEX was born. The project began as an excuse for old friends to get together, drink beer, and make noise. But what began as a joke quickly became a serious attempt to be a "good" joke - one that is entertaining and pleasing to musicians and listeners alike.

    Press Reviews
"XEX takes its heavy metal seriously, maybe a little too seriously" Michael Deeds, The Idaho Statesman. "When you watch a XeX show it's hard not to have a good time, even if metal isn't your thing.".... "They really just don't care. They aren't afraid to go all the way. They dress like Hessians with flowing hair, wearing "beaters and shades to quote the band's own motto.".... "Although the album draws heavily from traditional metal influences, the music is complex and varied." Amy Garrett. The Boise Weekly.
