Artist History
The Fitsners relocated from hometown Rochester, New York to the San Francisco Bay Area late in '96 with their self-released EP CD in a Cardboard Sleeve already available through Denver-based Not Lame Records. As finalists in Musician Magazine's best unsigned band contest, The Fitsners hadn't even found a place to stay in the Bay Area before negotiating a record deal with local label PopSmear Records. Look for the band to spread their quirky, immediately-hummable (and danceable) pop-laden performances across the western US and Canada throughout 1999 . The band has also scheduled a return to hometown Rochester, NY including a tour of surrounding states. |

Press Reviews

This collection is notcomprehensive, but it should give you a good idea of what’s being written about the band’s music and shows of late. Night Life Magazine (NY) - Live Show Review "The Fitsners performed a sharp, tough and highly entertaining brand of power pop/rock with some mod rock influence, and intheir white shirts and black ties, offered an image of The Beatles, or at least The Knack." The Sun (Buffalo) - Applesauce "[Applesauce] is best described as power pop, somehow a cross between the bands "Weezer" and "Primus." The songwriting ispacked with quirky likes that will keep listeners chuckling long after the 12th song is over." The City Newspaper (Buffalo) - Live Show Review "The Fitsners were a damn good time, and well worth seeing." Artvoice - Applesauce "The album includes quite a collection of energetic crunchy pop tunes with an amazing quality; a flavor that sparks theiroriginality. After listening to Applesauce you'll be left humming the tunes in your head for hours." Democrat/Chronicle (Rochester)- Band Feature "The Fitsners sound is 2 1/2-minute bursts of metaphore free pop about everyday problems." This is it. The Fitsners are here to save your pathetic lives with a new batch ofpop radio-friendly tunes." Amplifier - Applesauce "Witty, tough power poppers. . .The Fitsners radiate charm, hooks and an irresistible sense of fun. . .the album really hits its stridearound song four Super Heroand doesn’t let up with the hooks or humor." JerseyBeat - Applesauce "This highly endearing power-pop trio do no wrong on their encore album, producing 12 uniformly bright ‘n’ bouncy bubblegumditties which snap, crackle, and pop with pleasing regularity. . .Pleasant, perky, and very personable, this album qualifies as amodest, but surefire winner." Yeah Yeah Yeah - Applesauce "A rare unpretentious energetic pop-punk record that still keeps my faith alive. And that says it all. 12 songs, great production andgood energy." NXNW Schedule Publication - Applesauce "Pop with both power and glory. . .clean-cut fun for everyone who likes short, catchy songs with lots of yeah-yeah-yeahs." SF Weekly - SXSW PopSmear Showcase "The buzz was on. During SXSW, industry badges swarmed to the Fitsners showcase, at a club called Bate’s motel. The scenegave PopSmear President Scott Llamas a good chuckle. ’You could tell people were coming in with an agenda. The badges woulddrop by, check out two or three songs, then pop back out. It seemed like everybody was there at one time or another. It wasgreat'." BAM - SXSW PopSmear Showcase "like Joe Miece fronting The Ramones running through a set of old soul asylum tunes. . .three minute celebrations of perfection. ..intelligent and well crafted." The Rochester Democrat/Chronicle - Applesace "seamless pop songs. . .the trio exudes a winning personality." Willamette Weekly - Applesace "Pop with both power and glory is the story of this band. It’s clean cut fun for everyone." BAM - PopSmear Showcase "an energetic and straightforward set of melodic pop." SF Bay Guardian - PopSmear CD Release Show "The Fitsners are a solid, crunchy pop strike force with a kind of affable chug-pop sound that brings to mind the Smithereens ormid-tempo Buzzcocks. . .it becomes apparent from the first song in that these guys aren’t slacker wanna-be’s: they rehearse. Tightendings and abrupt rhythm shifts come off so effortlessly that you might not realize how complex some of the inner workings of asong like Uppers and Downers really are." |
