Artist History
Well, the history of the band would actually be a history of me, since I'm the only one in it currently. I really just felt a need to get some of the music I've written and am writing onto cd:I started The Avocado Project in June or July of 2000. At that time it was just an idea, an urging. It seems like from the beginning I've always liked music. I remember one time when I was a kid, I think I had just bought my first DC Talk CD. I wrote this rap song. Now everybody knows that a rapper has to have a backup singer, so I quickly hired on my sister for the job. That day, I made my first demo recording. I wasn't thinking about sending it off to some big record label, or using it to make profit. No, I just loved music.I started playing the clarinet in the sixth grade. Infact, I played it until I graduated from high school. Around my sophomore year, however, I started to take interest in the guitar. I don't remember how it all came about, but a woman named Clover Vancompernol started showing me how to play. It started with two chords, then four, and 10, until finally I could play the guitar pretty fluently.During the rest of high school, I got the chance to play in a number of different bands. I played anything from praise and worship to punk rock. One summer after I had graduated, me and a couple of guys decided we wanted to get together and play some music. The result was Chime Friday, and I think probably one of the best experiences that I've ever had. Now we only played three shows, but we practiced nearly every night, had band meetings, flyers, tapes, and CD's, not to mention a pretty nice fan-base. Unfortunately, Chime Friday was short lived. The next summer we were all off doing our own things; but the memory of Chime Friday will live on.For the longest time there were a lot of people telling me that I needed to make a CD of my own. I think that it's partially because every time I wrote a song, I would make the rounds playing it for anyone and everyone who would listen. Then, after I had played it for the poor unsuspecting victim, I would talk about it for the next 20 minutes until finally I decided it was time to find someone else.I've been working on the CD now for more than seven months, and it's been a lot of hard work! By the time it is finished there should be nine or 10 songs written by yours truley.Somebody once told me, "There's a lot of people out there who are just gonna die with all this music inside 'em. They need to get it out. It needs to be heard." If anything, I hope this inspires people to just write or play. |
