    Artist History
San Francisco Punk Rock is alive and well in Lead Vocalist/Guitarist Ithyle Griffiths, Lead Guitarist Jason Cole, Drummer Martin Greenwood and Bassist Matt Brown who make up the multi-faceted Spitshine Syndicate. In December of 1999 the boys started the crusade for the ultimate in Heartcore and Spitshine Syndicate was born. Sitting at the Kilowatt on 16th St. in SF, Cole said, "We should start a band." Griffiths agreed, "I've got a couple of punk songs written." he lied, he only had one. And that was that. About 5 months and several drummers later (sometime in April 2000) Greenwood became the fourth and final member of this rocking quartet. Soon after, Spitshine Syndicate acquired a rehearsal studio in San Rafael where they could finally practice at their own leisure. Ever since they have been on the non stop roller coaster that is Spitshine Syndicate. The band draws heavily from Post-Hardcore influences such as: Saves the Day, Face to Face, Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, The Get Up Kids, H2O, Good Riddance, Strife, AFI, and New Found Glory. "We're the type of band that functions really well under pressure, and there is always a pressure to try to top ourselves." says Brown. "Not so much what we sell, because we don't really care about that. We want to make a really great record. The band's goal has always been to be solid from start to finish; a record that will take you through an entire range of emotions and live shows that move you to want to hear more." Those sentiments come across loud and clear during their on-stage performances. On their potential-single "Spit," Griffiths' vocals turn fierce when addressing those he feels have judged him unfairly over the years -- a pitch that is matched by the searing guitar lines that Cole turns out while his bandmates erect a majestic wall of riffs to ring his discourse. For their upcoming 7-Song EP, Spitshine Syndicate turned to friend and producer Billy Gould of Faith No More to ensure that they captured the massive guitar attacks, catchy vocals and bold lyrics that make Spitshine Syndicate's brawny-yet-intimate sound a force to be reckoned with. Together with Gould, the band is recording the new release at Laughing Tiger Studios in San Rafael, CA. "I think my songwriting is very direct and understandable," says Griffiths. "People can relate to that, so that's something I don't want to move away from. We've been through a lot in the past year, so we're looking to put things across in a way that reflects that." Spitshine Syndicate's reputation for dynamic, passionate live performances has led to a steadily growing fan base. During the past year the band has played to more and more fans throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area. "We try to play out as much as possible, and at every show, there are people telling me how much certain songs mean to them or how certain words make them feel," says Cole. "That means more to me than any other kind of attention. It's important to feel as if you're doing something worthwhile, and in this band, I feel like I am." After hearing Spitshine Syndicate you will understand.
