Artist History Southern Discomfort is a three piece band with a unique southern-punk influencedsound, with some reggae and hip hop influences thrown in. Currently, the band is finishing up recording and mixing their debut CD entitled "Moe Foties". The band is currently looking to expand their audience by touring the Southwest in preparation of the release of their debut CD. Southern Discomfort is originally from the Long Beach/Orange County area and has developed a loyal following among the beach community reaching all the way to Baja Mexico. The success they have garnered so far has been due to the popularity of their live show, guest musicians, and the loyalty and respect they show to their fans and supporters.Southern Discomfort was formed in an effort to provide an opportunityto explore musical areas closer to the bands background and influences. The band is comprised of David Heft (vocals, bass, guitar) and Matt Crownover (vocals, guitar, electric beats). In an effort to continue to expand its direction and sound, the band has added Paul Rojas (DJ Supcardiod) on the turntables to add some old skool/new skool flair.The band's songs are primarily written as collaborations between David Heft and Matt Crownover. David's father was a country music songwriter in the early 60's, penning a gold record for Bill Anderson entitled "Golden Guitar"; so, the art of storytelling through song has been a part of his life since early childhood. David has used music to help him overcome the loss of his brother and father, all within the last five years. Although the band has faced some very tough times, they continue to survive and pursue the art of creating pure music free from trends.The band's music is very diverse ranging from 70's style funk to Dick Dale influenced surf. Their chief influences run the gamut of musical taste, such as: Sublime, Social Distortion, Rolling Stones, KISS, Peter Tosh, WyclefJean, Run-DMC and Johnny Cash. The band's diversity allows them to fit in nicelywith any band they share the bill with, from straight up punk to easy skankin' reggae. Fans seem to enjoy the broad range of music the band creates, noting thatmost CD collections are filled with a wide variety of music. The band has been described as "a welcome change from the monotonous punk/hardcore clone bands dominating the current music scene" (www.deadontheweb.com). Recently, Southern Discomfort competed in a "Land Your Band" contest hosted on iCAST.com. The band was ranked as the 14th band by the fans out of over 275 bands from the LA/Southwest region. The success the band has been receiving sparked an appearance on The Poorman Show carried on UPN. The response since the airing has been overwhelmingly positive and has renewed the band's energy and drive.
