Artist description
Shuna is a Celtic New Age project inspired by the Western Isles of Scotland. Shuna combines acoustic with synthetic, and music with poetry. Shuna is actually a small, kept island-haven in Argyllshire off the West coast of Scotland. There is a soul in this area that beckons the visitor to touch a continuum of tradition through its vehicles of story-telling, natural beauty, history, ancient architecture, art and symbolism; all of which played a part in inspiring this work 'Hill of Thumb'. Walking its hills and discovering the past made me recontextualise and understand life. Whilst this is a celtic region, inspiration also comes from the story of the Picts residing on the Eastern portion of Scotland. They were tribal and posed great threats to the Celts and Romans. On encountering the Picts, the latter constructed the Antonine Wall to keep them at bay (hence Antonine Music). The picts had a rich culture embedded in symbolism, realised in most through their stone carvings. [See Links] |
