Artist description
Spawned from an affair of members of
Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, The Who, and
Guided by Voices, the music of Lo-Fi
Genius recalls the days when rock was
simply rock (not rock/rap, not rap/metal,
not emo/rap, and not the overbearing
preaching of Creed). |

Artist History
Since 1997, Lo-Fi Genius has been performing its
brand of original rock around the Philadelphia
area. The band has played at some of the area's
best clubs including The Pontiac Grille, The
Khyber, The Rusty Nail, Doc Watson's Pub, and
The Grape Street Pub. In August 2000, the band
released independently its first CD, "This Is
Rocket Science", which was recorded at Indre
Studios in Philadelphia.
Founding members Jon Reiff & Mike Martin have been
playing together since 1990. In September of 1996,
they asked their friend, Doug Blose, to join a
new project which became known as Officer Gordon
(the name of the police officer who served them
a citation for practicing too loudly). In 1997,
Pat Colleran completed the band's lineup. In
April 1998, in an attempt to finish a demo
session in New York City, Jon took out his
TASCAM Porta III 4-track recorder. One of
the other members said something to the effect
that Jon really knew what he was doing, to
which Jon replied sarcastically, "yeah, I'm a
real lo-fi genius." While the four members
believed that they had finally found the "right"
name for the band, it would take a few months
before they would re-christen the band as
"Lo-Fi Genius."
In December of 2001, Lo-Fi Genius was one of
four finalists chosen to represent the
Philadelphia market in the 12 Bands of
Christmas Contest (sponsored by Garageband.com,
The Hard Rock Cafe, and Sam Adams)! |
